Caye Caulker, Belize Cayes, Belize, 001-501-226-0602
... to Caye Caulker for saturday night because the rest of my time there was very subdued as there is not much else to do apart from chilling out or going swimming at the split (very aptly named as the location where the island was split by the hurricane and the best place to swim and hang out). As sunday's & monday's were very quiet anyway I spent a very chilled out remainder of my stay hanging out with Devira and Traci and generally enjoying the rasta reggae atmosphere.
Caye Caulker, Belize Cayes, Belize julesjb... travel alarm.

The original plan was for two days on Caye Caulker. The consensus now is one night is enough so tomorrow is open with no agenda yet except a trip back to the mainland ASAP. I am glad I was on Caye Caulker...I found my authentic Caribbean experience that was untouched by highrise development, tourists, chain stores and jaded locals. What I found was a village untouched by time and people going about their daily lives on Caribbean time.
Caye Caulker, Belize Cayes, Belize leskovar... for dogs...

I went scuba diving yesterday at Esmeralda Bay and Eagle Ray Canyon, where I encountered a couple dozen nurse sharks, turtles, lobsters, tiger rays, huge grouper, and hundreds of assorted bright tropical fish and a variety of coral. The sharks to me were the absolute coolest. Even though they were small (less than 6' long) and mellow, just seeing them swim by made me want to pee in my wetsuit. Except, the water is so warm I didn't even need to wear a ...
Caye Caulker, Belize Cayes, Belize mschwartz... island, thanked him profusely for a fantastic day.. Still full from lunch I wasn't hungry for dinner so did a bit of shopping and found myself a Belize patch to sew onto my backpack. Teryn, Julia and i went for a bit of food later then I left the rest of them at the Sports Bar. I was done after a long days swimming, eating and being in the sun so fell asleep pretty soon after my head hit the pillow. Excellent day!
Caye Caulker, Belize Cayes, Belize chooklotto... houses cabanas & a bar - its still only about 800 yards around. Another rum punch evening with local fish supper & introduced Brian the 62 year old Aussie in year 3 of travelling to backpacker..tents a doodle now. More of same on day 3 but motor has gone again so we get to sail all day and arrive at Placencia in dark at 6pm but to a super guest house (Diannis) - the girls seem to have John Boys cabin complete with hammock. Still behind but that´s Belize time.
Caye Caulker, Belize pilgrim143... saw some more sharks and plently of other fish. We got back from the dive trip about 3 and I was so hungry I had to get a chicken burger. After a nice shower back at the hotel we went to watch the sunset at the ´split´so called because the hurricane in 1995 split the island. After watching the sunset we went to dinner but because I eat earlier I just had a coconut cake off the famous cake man. I then went for a drink with the irish girls and christine.
Caye Caulker, Belize jensadventures... the hotel, showered, rested for a bit, and headed to Rasta Pasta for a lunch. I had jerk pasta with chicken and a limeade to drink and Erinn had a giant tostada with chicken and a Fanta to drink. Both were very good, we would highly recommend eating at RP while on Caulker. That night, Erinn called her dad collect on one of the many international phones on the Caulker streets. We found out after returning that each of these calls cost $30 base plus ...
Caye Caulker, Belize Cayes, Belize boognish... glad we did! Sunday morning we arrived at the wooden pier in Caye Caulker with our backpacks ready to load the ship that was going to be our home for the next three days. The Ragga King is a great old sail boat with two massive sails, a small cabin, seating area at the back and a huge deck up front. We were in a group of about 15 people (plus three crew members) and luckily it turned out to be a great bunch of people and we all got on brilliantly. Expectations ...
