... complement the rich meal. Because our day started so early, we returned to the hotel close to 3:00pm, and had the afternoon and evening free to rest and tour the city on our own. With all the food and wine we have been drinking, we decided to have only gelato for dinner tonight! So many of you asked why there was no gelato picture yesterday. With driving and eating and then driving and eating some more, there was honestly no time (or room) for gelato yesterday. So, to answer ...

... wines were sparkling for dinner which was a nice change of pace. We had a light Prosecco to start, a Lambrusco with the meal, and a sweet Moscato d'Asti with dessert. We will leave before dawn on our way to see the making of parmigiano reggiano and then to sample balsamic vinegars. It's lights out ...

Finally, taken to Ferrari store and made small purchase, no not a new 458 Italian, .... A mug!!! Maranello is like a shrine to the Ferrari. Flags everywhere. People taking pictures and pipping their horns, allowing us to go in front of them on roundabouts! Now we have to hoof it to Lake Como as 4.30pm and have 165 miles to cover. Temp 21 degrees but cloudy. Rain on ...

... The town is so pretty with beautiful buildings and so clean. Made it back to hotel for 12 noon departure to Maranello. Drove through Gotthard Pass which took us above the clouds. Stu always wanted to drive this. Lots of hairpin bends. Scary for passenger! Very beautiful until fog descended. 272 miles later at 5.15pm we arrive at Locanda del Mulino, our hotel. Pleasantly surprised as looks well ...

... Modena. Enzo built this factory in 1943 to avoid being bombed. You can do a simulated test drive reaching speeds of 300km/hr in a F1 car. Next was a visit to a winery which makes Lambrusca where after viewing the wine process with the owner we had a very generous lunch of 4 courses with wine. We were allowed to visit the kitchen and saw 3 woman hand making very small tortellini used in soups. ...
