... at a cosy little restaurant near the Grote Markt called "de Pottekijker" which I think means the potter's wheel. The staff were friendly, the atmosphere was conspiratorial, the food was excellent and the wine complemented the local meats well. I had the house speciality which was a grilled spit of chicken, lamb and beef and Richard had a huge piece of freshly caught grilled tuna with a garlic jacket potato. Too full for dessert we retired for the evening to see what the new day will ...

The second stop on our Belgium trip was the capital, Brussels. I think of all the cities I've visited throughout my life, Brussels is the most beautiful city of them. Everything is so ornate and so well-kept, with grass and trees and plazas everywhere.

The palace building looked like it had seen better days, but the guards were entertaining. At the Place Royale there was a nice view over the city and the Museum of Musical Instruments looked cool.

By 4pm we were pretty tired although the random events didn't ...

Our next stop on the journey gave us some more insight into the rich history of the region, primarily through the architecture in the main squares, Grote Markt, and around the Cathedral of Our Lady. Unfortunately with the museums we had particularly wanted to see closed, and the entire length of the road in main fashion street was under construction, but it was fun to explore the little streets in the center, and we could imagine what the atmosphere would ...
