... building a traditional Digo house. This is proving to be a lot of fun (lots of climbing in the rafters doing the makuti roof and getting chafu-sana doing the mud walls) and we are learning some good techniques to use when we go home. Anyone need a new garden shed?
Two Fridays ago we went to San Siro - the local Kwale Music Hall and met lots of people who were amazed that their Mzungu friends could dance. We should mention that we have ...
Malindi is a popular tourist town with scenic beauty, clean white beaches and a lot of history located on the East Coast of Kenya,
Malindi also referred to as the Coral Coast provides a very nice introduction to the beautiful Kenyan coast. Visitors can experience surfing ...
We caught a Matatu all the way to Malindi from Mombasa ( not the most comfortable 2 hours, but very reasonably priced at 2 pounds. We would have gone by proper bus but couldn't find the bus station. In Malindi it was raining heavily, but our hotel was comfortable and empty. We went to the local Italian for dinner, which we couldn't find but collected another new friend on the way who ...
Malindi, Coast, Kenya crisp21... Planeten. WHAT ...
Malindi, Kenya brisko... silly things but so helpful, we have bought tonnes of paint and painted the entire length of one wall in the garden with sky blue and a few murals of rainbows, kites and hot air balloons (not to mention an aborted sun that turned into an orange blob soon to be transformed into a sunset scene), but the kids loved it and have serenaded us with songs about rainbows all day. On another level we feel the support we have given the staff has enabled us to spend so ...
Mombasa, Kenya andyb... those images of the children covered in flies haha. But those few children were sooo gorgeous and it was a nice introduction. I think I'll be going there regularly by next week. This afternoon I went to see Blood Diamond at the cinema in Nyali. I cried throughout that is such a good film! And the cinema was so much better than English ones. Hope everyone is well and hope to hear some news from England soon! Or France or wherever my family is! =) Love to everyone Loz xxx
Mombasa, Kenya lori-lou... time of year. We don't have alot planned for here, just relaxing and staying in one place, for a change. We'll have good internet access the next few days here, if anyone is tryign to reach us. Cheers *megs later comments so there's nothing in malindi....just murky ocean, italians and their black prostitutes. things are expensive because tourism is geared to italians. there is literally nothing to do ...
Malindi, Kenya meg-kevJust another quick update for you. First week over in the teaching and im starting to settle in (and calm down) a bit in any case. What a week though and its just flown in!! really hope the rest doesn't go as quickly. Living in pretty much city centre Mombasa. I started off in a homestay which was actually really nice and though it wasn't your typical family (a lady, her daughter, sister, nephew, mother and housekeeper!) they were actually lovely. The ...
Mtwapa, Kenya wardie... May, after I return from Ethiopia and before flying back to Atlanta. We'll have just five days, but I think it will be good. I also met an Amerikan student named Maggie Quinn studying abroad and interning at Kwetu. She invited me to stay with her host family in Mtwapa. It sounded better than staying alone out at Kwetu. Her host family was a mama and her four daughters. Mama cooked up a storm with coconut rice and fish. I had a king size bed to myself again.
