There is yet another fair in Basel right now, the Herbstmesse (Autumn Fair). It is huge! Carnival rides, food stalls, and booths selling trinkets are spread throughout the city. We got back in Basel late yesterday afternoon. We had lots of time to sort out our luggage and for mom and dad to repack for their journey today. Today it was time to say good-bye. They are driving back to Paris and flying home midday tomorrow. I had parked their rental car in an underground garage right by my apartment. ... knew what they had to offer. We started in the indoor pool which is not cold but not too warm either. Then we moved in to a salty sauna. We made sure we tried absolutely everything before we left. There are three aroma-ed saunas, each of them giving off a different delicious scent. Stayed here a couple of nights. Just a really pretty place in the heart of the Black Forest. Got my first look at a woodcarvers shop and was blown away by the quality of the work. The fine detail has to be seen in person to be truly appreciated. Snow everywhere ...

This was what I really came to Europe for. Freiburg was just the beginning of an awesome adventure for me. The mountains and the forest and the cake. We caught a cable car up to the top of the mountain and wandered in the snow. Got some great photos. We made Freiburg our base and toured a fair bit around the region. ... really wet! After that little adventure. we took about and 1.5 hour walk down the rhein river to the train station again. At one spot on the river is this amazing schwimmen bade. its awsome. it was a beautiful swimming pool surrounded by greeen grass and fountains. there was also a diving board into the river. we got ice cream there and headed to the train. cant wait to go back and go swimming! =]
