... its trade, it has gone downhill. We stayed in a pleasant B&B in the congested centre of town called "El Plan". Although the B&B was pleasant, the surrounding area was shabby & worst of all, didn't have a decent restaurant, only cafes serving badly cooked steaks with a mountain of chips topped with 2 fried eggs - a local delicacy. The best of these cafes did sell wine by the bottle offering a wide selection, both a red & a white ...

Eventually Yoko, Andreas, Andreas' friend Gary and I jumped on a bus out to Vina del mar - the beach. The bus was absloutely packed when we got on and they kept on stopping to let more people on. The streets were jammed up so the 9km journey took about an hour. Eventually we got to 'Vina' and wandered along the beach. Vina ...

Christmas at the beach

The bus from Santiago only took 2 hours and so we arrived in Vina Del Mar in plenty of time to look around before dinner. Our hotel is lovely. We have a huge room with our own bathroom, dinner table and cable tv. We are in absolute luxury compared to what we are used to from a hostel! We checked in and made use of the amazingly warm shower and then we decided to look around. Our hotel is not far from any of the beaches so we walked down to the nearest one and took our first paddle ...

... 7 blocks in mid-day heat to find the hostel area. But if La Clanderia is any indication of hostels to come, I will be a pretty happy camper! We were able to get a private room with a double bed and a sink- the room was impeccably clean and the sheets were also equally so (yes even I slept on the sheets provided WITHOUT my sleeping bag cover...insane!). There was a communal washroom yes but even that was spot-on! haha.... Ahh the joys of a bit of privacy and ...

... headed to Valparaiso and enjoyed wandering the windy and steep streets, the colourful eclectic buildings and graffiti. Found a restaurant in a lovely colonial building with gorgeous views and fresh fish. The best feature of our b&b was a lovely dinning room with views if the bay and that night we made the most of the lovely view of the bay and Enjoyed more of those famous avocados with the wine Gareth had won off Kingsley in a ...

... off in Casablanca and the auditor invited me to eat dinner with his family when I got to Santiago which was cool. After getting back to Valparaiso, I decided it was time to go dancing. Theres a nice place called Ache Havana downtown and I had pretty good time. I took advantage of the opportunity to have some Havana Club rum from Cuba, something we don't have access to in the states. Anyway, it was a great day. The ...

Valparaiso

We arrived in Valparaiso from Santiago at 1pm after a very short trip for us just an hour and a half. Once we checked into the hostel we went for a walk to see the city, after about an hour it started to spill rain so we went back to the hostel for shelter ate dinner and had a nice bottle of wine. On Wednesday we got up early hoping to enjoy a day without rain but no such luck. The 21st of May is a Chilean holiday in celebration of the naval battle of ...
