... area. We found a rooftop cafe to enjoy lunch and a few liquid refreshments. The atmosphere was enhanced by the soulful sound of traditional instruments played by a group of Chinese musicians playing not far from where we had lunch. ... back at the hotel for a quick turnaround as booked to see a Kung Fu show tonight. This was astounding. About 30 people doing a London type show of Kung Fu. Back to the hotel after for a big surprise. The whole group sitting round waiting for me with a birthday cake and candles. They all sang and it was very embarrassing. Suzhou is famed for its private gardens, canals and silk and is frequently compared with Venice as 42% of the area of the city is covered by water. Suzhou is in the middle of the Yangtze Delta. From here we caught a taxi to the main shopping street in Suzhou and got very overexcited about Marks and Spencer! I was dissuaded from buying an Easter egg as they were pretty overpriced so it looks like I’ll have to find an alternative source of Easter chocolate.
