      ... out various locations where the film was shot and since it will be celebrating its 50th anniversary next year, Salzburg is really drawing a lot of attention. Salzburg is also famous as the birthplace of Mozart, and everywhere you looked, there was a figure head of Mozart, although he wasn't a very good looking guy.       ... since September and won't reopen until May so the tour groups had to get there crystal fix at the store in Innsbruck. It is really quite a large store with some magnificent pieces.

      Innsbruck looks so different with the market. I completely missed the Golden Roof the first day we were walking around. It changes the context of the square so much.

      We we really enjoyed our stay in Innsbruck and now we are off to Salzburg.

      We drove from Lindau to Innsbruck. It is about a 2 hour drive without stops on mostly 4 lane road and good highways. We already had out Austrian Road sticker. We got that when we went to Lichtenstein.

      Driving through the Alps is not like driving through the mountains in western Canada. The Germans and Austrians don't believe in going around a mountain if you can go through it. We figure 1/4 of our trip was in tunnels!

      going "off road" and simply has no idea where in the world I am going.
      Once right down in the valley I can see loads of maintenance work going on
      up on the cliff road above and now understand why its closed.
      As I make my way along this make-shift road I see a truck with about 20
      cars coming towards me which gives me hope that the roads open.

      After leaving Venice, we hopped on a train which took us to Innsbruck, Austria. This is in the Tirol area in the south western part of Austria. We stayed the night in Innsbruck, and made our way out to Kaunertal the next morning. Innsbruck was the first place that we were able to catch a glimpse of the Alps!
