It was built in 1730 ten years after a farmer witnessed a statue oh Christ weeping. Millions of people each year make a pilgrimage to this beautiful and highly decorated Catholic Church. The dome ceiling is painted in pastel tones with murals of Christ's resurrection, the walls are white but with plenty of gilded ...

... one castle done and dusted, I grabbed a photo of the Hohenschwangau Castle back down the hill. This was older and the family home for Ludwig and his ancestors but I was castled out by now so we admired from afar and grabbed the free bus to Füssen instead.

Füssen is a lovely little town with fortified walls, yet another castle and some lovely streets to wander around. ...

Much of the interior is made from carved oak so has a darker feel and wouldnt have been good for pics anyway. The chapel on the top floor had Orthodox style wall murals.

There was also his private quarters where five doctors had declared him mad before they carted him off. ...
