... br> What most tourists probably don't do when they arrive in Rothenburg is climb the bell tower with 183 steps to the top. John and Jill saw that as an option and quickly decided they would do it. Although the stairs became more and more narrow as they ascended to the top, the view from the top was spectacular with the high shingled roofs and aerial view of the city. ...

Bayreuth to Lichtenfels (0 + 12km light) - Day 24

A travel blog entry by sydandval on Jun 07, 2015

... to get on and off with loaded bikes as there were 4 steep steps, a narrow doorway and a 20cm gap between the carriage and the platform. Our embarcation was not helped by five obstreperous German males unloading their bikes and luggage onto the platform in front of the door in a disorganized muddle. Well, that’s NOT how it turned out in Rothenburg! All the brochures and guides describe a quaint, medieval village, up on a hill, surrounded by a wall that survived and thrived throughout the ages, and that’s exactly what it turned out to be!

Dresden to Bayreuth by train (2km) - Day 22

A travel blog entry by sydandval on Jun 05, 2015

... to take the earlier local agilis train from here as it terminated in Bayreuth even though it took longer and stopped more often than the regional train which passed through Bayreuth (more time to get off the train). We pushed the bikes easily straight off the train and eventually found the ramp to get to the street (stairs are not good with loaded bikes!). The day was hot and sunny (28degrees!).

Using Sammy we negotiated the 1km to our ...
