Bressanone and Plose : snowboarding

2 planes - 1 bus - 3 trains - 1 taxi later and we arrive in Bressanone. About 40 hrs of transit was well worth it... this place is adorable - its like walking around in a postcard. Have been snowboarding the past 3 days which was lots of fun - bussed up the mountain to Plose ski fields area... have added some pictures and will caption the pictures if we can.

First few days in Bolzano

... there.

Kolpinghaus, the student residence I was assigned to, is really close to the University, which is nice. It is catholic-run though, and they actually make you sign on to their rules! This imposition is uncomfortable as it makes it impossible to really feel at home in your room. No visitors from outside the hotel, no one else in the room after ten and a curfew at twelve, among other things. Ridiculous.

The room they gave me is modern, with hardwood floors and ...

First stop of many!!!

... Innsbruck. At least this time I was not awoken from sleep and asked where my passport was. Ha ha ha!

The Innsbruck, Austria area has some of the most beautiful scenery around. Lush rolling hills, quaint old villages and some huge crazy modern bridges. I think it would be great to rent a car and travel around this area. Yet another trip to plan! If I win that SuperEnalotto…… I guess I can do pretty much anything I want!

Relaxing day in Auronzo and Cortini

... returning to Cortina, Cindy slept off an upset stomach while the kids relaxed and I did a 10-mile run exploring south of Cortina. We all went on a stroll (hike is a bad word now) afterwards to enjoy the first extended period of sunshine since we arrived in Europe a week ago.

Bike Ride to Prato Piazza

... were gone, Cindy and Alycia walked around town some and went to a market next to the hotel. They grabbed pizza at a new restaurant, which all of us returned to that night for a nice dinner. Trey and I ate several meals apiece in a single sitting to make up for the energy expended during the day. We have a newfound appreciation for the bikers competing daily in the Tour de France this month.

Hiking the Dolomites

... nice views off of the trails of Rio de Fanes and we then returnied to Alycia, who happened to be right next to the falls we were looking for. It was a 3 hour hike covering about 7 miles going up to 1500 meters or more.

Trey was feeling better late in the day, so the family walked around town a while tonight before eating dinner and calling it a night. Tomorrow will be much more strenuous as Trey and I are planning an all-day bike ride.

Trekking and Climbing in the Dolomites

... not really sustain a lot of damage when the mountain exploded...The effort that went into digging these mining projects just demonstrate the ridiculous futility of war!
We climbed down through this long, low and dark tunnel that Gollum would have happily inhabited and subsequently explored the Italian so-called Martini ridge at the end. All of this proved an enormous feat of engineering under the most adverse conditions.

Then it was time for our via ...

Beating Bergamo

... Reggie but we go boot leg right, and I have Piva on a comeback to the right side but throw it low and he can’t dig it off the turf. On second down we fake a sweep to Reggie and I run right, but that only got us five. On third and 11, Bergamo brought it. I told Mario to run a curl at the marker, and he said “throw me the [expletive] ball.” I dropped back as fast as I could, hung in the pocket and slung it to him at the last possible second ...

June Swoon

... a shower, I threw on a button up and gelled my hair to look the part of a sophisticated horse handicapping connoisseur. Any allure and charm the gel and shirt had though, fell to pieces once Wood and I climbed into the Giant’s Jalopy and we rattled our way to the track parked and went in. At the gate they were passing out newspapers, and Wood made them flip it to the article on the Giants game against Ancona, and pointed out my picture. It would have been ...

The First Practices - Football Italiano

... so I threw for another few minutes. We are practicing on the adjacent soccer field to our stadium while new field turf is being laid down at the stadium. It doesn't help the receivers that there aren't yard markings. Hopefully the turf will be finished in the next two weeks. In general there isn't a whole lot of coaching going. I'll get told what to do, as in roll out, drop back, or what route to throw ...
