We were planning to go to Liechtenstein but thought we may as well as it was sort of on our way. It's the worlds 6 smallest country so it would have been rude not to go..haha.

We didn't drive to the main town but to another.. where really there wasn't anything. I did get a photo with the tourist sign though. Had to somehow prove I'd been there!

Obersaxen, Switzerland acgwhale... Feldkirch I got lost. Actually I was just trying to get to McDonald's because the group wanted a bathroom break and the public toilets here were not to our standards. Anyway, I drove past the McDonald's twice - once my fault and once the navigator's - and drove down a pedestrian only section of road before we gave up and continued on our journey out of town and deeper into Austria.
Feldkirch, Austrian Alps, Austria travelingdivaSaturday, May 30th, 2009 - Glacier Express

Well, today is the day. We are off on the Glacier Express. We are going all the way to Zermatt so we can see the Matterhorn. This train advertises itself as the slowest express train in the world. We were to soon realize that sometimes there is truth in advertising.

We have breakfast at the hotel, included with the room. Breakfast in Europe is quite different than in the US. It is sort of a combination breakfast and lunch ...
Chur, Swiss Alps, Switzerland lafalot... building, and the government building. This area looks very modern but blends well into the surrounding mountains and old houses and buildings.

It was a sunny day but a bit chilly. I decided the best way to warm up was to hike up to the castle. I started walking up a steep hill that I thought would lead me to the castle. It passed through a beautiful residential area and eventually ended at a trail head. Perfect! From there I ...
Vaduz, Liechtenstein travelingdiva... Afterwards, Julia and I went out to a bar near the hostel for some drinks. She was so easy to talk to, and incredibly friendly. Her english was a bit rusty, but we somehow managed to have great conversations all night. We meet some people from Davos, and had a great time drinking and laughing. The bar we were at was closing, so we all went to another bar down the street for a couple of more drinks. It was a great night. The next day, I ...
Chur, Swiss Alps, Switzerland collanya... to God. It was magnificent. Enormously high and built exclusively from white marble upon which were mounted or painted works of art and carvings of the saints etc. in every nook and cranny. There was colour everywhere in a baroque style with stucco designs and a fresco covering most of the ceiling. A larger version of Birnau. The wow factor went up several notches. The choir stalls were ornately carved out of timber and highly polished whilst the altar surrounds were of an ...
Chur, Switzerland brianc... spoil myself at least once. 1st Class travel is an interesting dilemma of value for money. In the case of the Glacier Express the only additional "service" was audio announcements of points of interest along the route. (What would have been nice was a full audio guide). Even the windows did not have to be panoramic. However the spaciousness, airyness, and brightness of the large windows made the 1st class trip worthwhile ...
Chur, Switzerland sjg209... We traveled on some of the windingest roads you can imagine. Just when you thought you’d reached the valley, you would make a turn and go down some more. The scenery is so spectacular that the group is exceptionally quiet. They have to be awestruck. I know I am. The terrain returning from St. Moritz is very rocky. Wherever there is vegetation, there are cows. What a day! This was the most spectacular scenery I have ever seen. I will never be able to put into words what I ...
St. Moritz, Swiss Alps, Switzerland pemalak... Hotel Europe, we stopped for some ice cream. I see why Europeans like their ice cream so much. It is really rich, smooth and delicious.

Once we were back in the room, we started to get ready for dinner. We were heading up the Jakobshorn Mountain for dinner, via cable car (two of them, actually) to the top. I can’t wait to see the view from the top at night. The view from the cable car was incredible...you could see the entire valley. However, the restaurant was ...
