Forschungs- und Transferzentrum BMW/BMW Welt:
I say hello to BMW and get some first impressions of the work in the FIZ.After that we were going to the BMW Welt and watch some cars and start some engines and also test the BMW bikes.
In the evening our flight was going back to hamburg.
... was David and one of the guy's birthdays, and we celebrated with cake and going to a concentration camp. Dachau was the first concentration camp built after Hitler took control, and many of his former political opponents were sent there. It served more as a work camp than a death camp, though the facilities were there. On the iron door that you still enter through is written "work will set you free". The car park is a small distance from the camp, and the way we walked past the end ...
Dachau, Bavaria, Germany bubba_oliver... later, he took over the leadership of the Party and the name was changed to the National Socialist German Workers Party. After a violent and bloody attempt to seize power in November 1923, he finally became Chancellor of the German Reich in January 1933. Later on, he would go down in the history books as one of the cruellest and most powerful dictators of all time. Fifty days after Hitler came to power, the first concentration camp for 'political ...
Dachau, Germany friskyc... as many as 60 died doing hypothermia testing. The prisoners of the camp lived under a constant state confusion, isolation, abandonment and deception. After seeing for myself Dachau, and then live video footage when soldiers first arrived at Dachau, doing countless research reports in grade school on other Concentration camps, seeing survivors on television, and reading personal accounts of the period (Anne Frank)... I believe that ...
Dachau, Germany jaskins82... younger, just thought it was just one big safari continent. Well, it may be - but now I am learning quickly how learning about people and cultures can completely change the way you look at the world. I have a journal book that is packed with more of my ramblings that is not on the website here, and has many of the minutia of this tripped all logged down with a braindump of all my thoughts up until this point... hopefully I can share this in the future in some ...
Munich, Germany phlegmorph... just outside of the city centre, and the most popular summer residence of the Bavarian royalty. It looks a bit like Versailles in Paris, and has a large formal garden as well as woodlands dotted with a hunting house and bathhouse - which are so immaculate on the inside and created by the best designers of the period. Munich is an interesting city which successfully mixes new architecture with old, as 70% of the city was destroyed during ...

München, Germany glitterhairdye... I fell in love instantly. It's BIG, with lots of tree covered walkways going off in all angles, large open spaces to soak up the sun and a river to fling yourself in if it gets too hot. Mind where you lie down though, because on of these is inhabited by nude sunbathers - I experienced some distress as I tried not to gawk for fear of walking into a tree (or worse, the path of an agitated cyclist). But before you rush off thinking heaven has ...
Munich, Germany marelia... to find them. Our first walk through town gave us an idea of the huge fan base that had travelled from Australia to support the Socceroos. There was green and gold everywhere! (ok a lot of that was for Brazil, but who cares, the Aussie had turned up in droves). We managed to find Richie and co and settled in for our first beers. 2 days and a whole lot of beer and pretzels later Australia had lost to Brazil and we had all lost a few brain cells but it was well worth the ...
Munich, Germany gregandjane... such a diverse country! Have been practicing the little German my sister taught me, ('I speak no German') and enjoying hanging out in Munich, a very liveable city (with excellent BBQ chickens). Picked up a few new books to read and Andrew is winning in the 7 month rock, paper, scissors championship (first to 100 in games of first to 5)... Switzerland next, on what better be a very comfortable train considering the cost of the ticket :-)
