I really enjoyed this hotel, the view of the mountains was beautiful and the reception desk was really friendly and helpful. It is located on the main road and close to the hot pools and some amazing restaurants.

We headed out into the heavy rain to escape the flooding in Christchurch. The Transalpine train journey was absolutely incredible. Lots of photos of snow and mountains. I braved the open air car for most of the way but so worth it! After leaving thr train behind at Arthur's Pass, we headed to Hokitika for a walk on the beach. And then on to Franz Josef Glacier. Wow!
Today is the day of the helicopter flight over the Franz-Josef and Fox Glaciers. En route we stopped at Lake Ianthe and admired the view across the lake to the snow capped mountains, including Mount Cook which is the highest in New Zealand.
Then on to Franz Josef to book in for the helicopter flights. Most people took the longer flight but …
... of wines are just fabulous. The sun was shining so we managed to sit outside, just a perfect day so far. Next stop is the Cloudy Bay winery, one of our favourite wines. Here we sample a wonderful vintage sparkling Cloudy Bay, apparently this is not available in the UK. We also try the regular sparkling, the pinot noir, c******ny and the sauvignon blanc. We just had to buy a bottle of the sauvignon blanc for later ha! ha! The girl at Cloudy ...
