I really enjoyed this hotel, the view of the mountains was beautiful and the reception desk was really friendly and helpful. It is located on the main road and close to the hot pools and some amazing restaurants.

We headed out into the heavy rain to escape the flooding in Christchurch. The Transalpine train journey was absolutely incredible. Lots of photos of snow and mountains. I braved the open air car for most of the way but so worth it! After leaving thr train behind at Arthur's Pass, we headed to Hokitika for a walk on the beach. And then on to Franz Josef Glacier. Wow!
Today is the day of the helicopter flight over the Franz-Josef and Fox Glaciers. En route we stopped at Lake Ianthe and admired the view across the lake to the snow capped mountains, including Mount Cook which is the highest in New Zealand.
Then on to Franz Josef to book in for the helicopter flights. Most people took the longer flight but …
... Lake Mapouika just after we entered the Glacier Country of Franz Josef. The lake reflected the surrounding landscape perfectly in its water, we walked down to the opening and took our shoes and socks off and walked along the wooden jetty which was under water due to the rainfall (it wasn't the greatest idea as the water was freezing but it was awesome out there). ... of the beautiful valley and the blue glacier. When you will be in New Zealand you cannot miss these 2 highlights.
Again we were lucky for taking pictures and it did not rain at all. We went back to the car and we even have not noticed that we already had spent 5 hours on the road. We ended the day by buying a bottle of local wine and the next day we woke up early because we were travelling further up ...
