Living the Aussie Dream!

... 8216;Real’ Bali then I would head a bit further inland as Ubud has become touristy. The only bad points I have about this my break in Bali are Jetstar & Bali belly! Jetstar is Australia’s Easy Jet and you get what you pay for and a couple of delays was probably the least we should have expected. Bali belly is something you get from drinking the water and is something I had when I got back to Brisbane, which was lucky I guess as it would have ruined my experience in ...

Arrival in Oz; it's a family affair...

Well, here we are up-side-down in Australia! We've been here a week now and not seen a single temple although, if you look very carefully, you may spot a Buddha in one of our photo’s!

Rosie, Steve and Beatrix all got up at the crack of dawn on 16th August to greet us at the airport, and how fabulous it was to see them all. The combination of our luggage, Steve’s car full of drums and Beatrix’s car 'pod’ meant that we ended up with two cars to carry us home ...

Planning - Back on track

... once again I am now looking at places to go and stay after Orlando. We leave Orlando on the 22nd and head for Cancun. Probably stay two weeks in Mexico, then 2 weeks in Cuba, 3 weeks in Venezuela, and 3 weeks in Colombia, before heading south to Ecuador, Peru, Bolivia, Chile and back to Argentina.

Went to see our travel quack for those DS games. Sunshine versus Gold

... and afterwards Nicole and I went over to Remy's house to listen to an unplugged session of his latest CD. It was a fabulous day of frolicking on the beach, watching semi-pro surfers battling with huge waves and discussing the finer points of the practicalities and aesthetics of boardies versus wetsuits on surfers, a very intellectual debate, I can assure you. When practising the semi-pro and pro surfers don't paddle out into the big surf, instead they ...

Maybe I Should Have Followed The Thai Stewardesses

... Well, go get some toilet paper" was Tracy's reply. After dutifully following directions, Sarah was back. "Okay, now go back to bed" was Tracy's next, less than empathetic, decree. It was at this point that Sarah burst into tears while pleading for help. Apparently, Tracy misheard Sarah and thought she had a "runny" nose, instead of a "bloody" nose. Plausible explanation considering it was 3am, I suppose, but not enough to stop me from haranguing ...

... liked Surfers better than Byron. Then she started crying. · I overheard a conversation between two guys in the hostel yesterday. One said he wasn't going out that night because he didn't fancy drinking. The other, with a confused look on his face, then said with a slight German accent, "But aren't you English?" · Men driving around in Surfers will beep and wolf whistle at any female walking past. Any female at all. I saw three ...

... Port Douglas and then went to a national park where you can swin in the river. I've got to say once you've seen Crocidile Dundee you're very hesitant to look into the water let alone swim in it. Gordon himself decided not to swim, I doubted it was because he didn't feel like it, but simply because he knew something I didn't about Sammy the Croc living in this part of the river. I did jump in. Swam for ten seconds. Jumped out again. The animals in Oz just aren ...

Christmas day vs Christmas eve

Christmas Eve in Australia is very different to at home ! The news was showing how the shops (which were open 24 hours the past few days) shelves had completly emptied out. There where queues (aparently) for hours and hours to get Fish for Christmas dinner .. personally I think this is just wrong, unless you cant eat meat then Il excuse it. Turkey is the only option at Christmas ! None of these Seafood platters or Lobster ...

Phase 3: Brisbane

... with an impromptu walking tour that ended up taking us through the cities downtown district, botanical gardens and through the campus of the University of Queensland. I was impressed with the youth and vitality of the city. After getting back and resting up a bit we find dinner and nightlife to enjoy. It is here where we our one frustration hits the tipping point.

While I do appreciate the lax attitude that is a strong current in the Australian ...
