    ... an extensive trail system right behind my cabin. The temperature high today has slipped to minus 18 degrees. I'll be fine as long as I keep moving. The track-set trail weaves between snow laden pines and climbs to a high point overlooking the surrounding forested landscape.
    It still surprises me at how early the sun sets but it does paint this white world with a stunning golden light.

    ... went to check it out. Unfortunately there was a function on that day so we weren't able to have a sauna. We drove to the top of a hill to see the famous Kuopio tower and ski jumps, but the weather was so gloomy we couldn't see much. Although the trip was a minor disaster because we didn't get to see any of the attractions it was still an amazingly fun trip. The drive home was full of dancing, laughing, lollies, sleeping and ...

    ... middle of town so we slowly walked the 2.5km home; stopping to watch some local kids play ice hockey.

    By 3.30pm it was dark again, only 5 or so hours of day-light is strange.

    We hunted around the hotel for a washing machine, when we finally found it we had to ask a student how to work it as we could not get it to start. It turned out it was very temperamental and needed a good knock to kick it into action.

    ... the difference might come from the fact that in Kittilä sun was shining, in Rovaniemi it had already disappeared behind the forest. Of course it shouldn't be extremely difficult to teach the electronics that there's no point to add either sign before zero.

    ... was really relaxing. We stopped at the overlook. It is at the top of the hill with the ski slope. There we talked about our senses and ate cloudberries. The city is beautiful from that spot as the two rivers come together and the city is lined with trees.
