About 15-20 minutes walk out of town on the main street which suited us very well.

The Sawridge inn was welcoming (ok, so we had an aussie on the front desk) and the decor was quite reasonable. On first impressions walking through the front doors the hotel appears roomy and options exist for meals or a few drinks.

The suite we had was a fabulous size though the bathroom vanity could have been a bit bigger.

Breakfast was not over-priced compared to many hotels Ive stayed at and the choice wide enough to suit most people.

Outside, the squirells were quite good entertainment and if you drive a car there was plenty of parking.

Lastly, the hotel has a guest laundry which, to any of us travelling for an extended period, is most welcome and cost effective.

We had a nice hearty breakfast, and then we were on the road by 8.30am, heading to the Icefields Parkway in Banff National Park.

The first part of travel was clear and the mountains looked grand on the Bow River side, we happened to get seats on the right side of the tour bus for good photo shots and many of them. We did see far in the …

... instructions to get to our room and how to pay which worked fine. We have a mini kitchen and there is even a guest laundry which is a bonus. We put on washing and went for an about town stroll as the Information Centre had just closed. We went back into town later for a nice dinner (I had Elk stroganoff – JB) with a view of the freight trains – then back to the warmth of our room. It was nice in town but cold – and -1 is forecast for ...

Along the route, there were so many opportunities to pull off and check out different glaciers. We stopped at the well-known Crowfoot glacier, which surprisingly looked exactly like they described! Next we visited the Athabasca glacier Center, and the hike to ...
