Savoy Opatija

Felt ok when I got up which is a good job as we are moving on not to far though only to a little place down the coast we have to get the bus there which only takes about 2 hours so not to much of a trek for me as still feeling light headed and dizzy which is nothing new for me really. So we drive down to Croatia. We thought it would be a great idea to wear our bikins as we drive so we get tanned... brilliant plan... that was until we got to the border and thought, whoops. Luckliy there was a car in front and we quickly put clothes on. In my haste I put my dress on back to front and inside out.... The guy then asked if we had anything to declare and was in hysterics when we laughed and said only 3 beers ...

Cette journée nous a ouvert l'appétit : dîner dans une "spaghetteria" sur le port accompagné d'un succulent vin blanc et retour à la chambre pour une bonne nuit.

L'arrivée sur cette île marque réellement le début de notre voyage. Cette petite ville paraît sortir de nulle part!

Les îles de Cres et de Losinj ne formaient qu'une à l'époque des Liburniens (1600 av J-C). C'est pour faciliter la navigation qu'il construisèrent un chenal d'eau de mer au niveau de la ville d'Osor. Aujourd'hui, Cres et Mali Losinj font partis des villes principales des 2 ...

... nous sommes en fait à 10 kilomètres de Opatija et que la ligne de bus ne passe pas du tout par là. Finalement, nous rejoignons le centre ville par un chemion caché située de l'autre côté des rails et nous nous rendons à l'office de tourisme pour nous renseigner.

Après avoir rejoins Rijeka en bus local, nous fêtons nos premièrs instants en Croatie autour d'une bière ...

Sorry, too dark for any good pictures, but here are a few attempts. This place is HUGE, with awesome, massive caverns that blow your mind, very impressive and interesting. The remains of the original internal stairs are visible in many spots, built by the original explorers ...

Die Hotelsuche war ein Horror, da einfach alles ausgebucht war In dem Hotel Opatija (***) gab es noch ein Zimmer: Unterm Dach ohne Klimaanlage, brütend heiß und der Aufzug machtr ach nicht mehr lange! Dafür werden dann 70 € die Nacht berappt. Opatija als solches ist ein Partyurlaubsort, an dem Corso gibt es etliche Discotheken und Clubs, die sich in Sachen Lautstärke überbieten wollen. Die Cocktails sind lecker und man kann auch günstig zu abend essen - muss aber nicht.

As soon as we pulled into Opatija we loved it. It has that tacky 1950's beach side feel to it. We were expecting there to be bingo parlours and old gypsies telling fortunes.
