... someone jumped over picked up the ball and came back again. It would appear that this prison was ahead of its time as the inmates were able to learn a trade such as bricklaying and could also learn to read and write at classes held on two nights a week. ... used until 1986, now being used as Arts & Crafts centre. In the afternoon we went for a walk along the marina & saw the replica longboat from the "Batavia" , then onto the lighthouse keepers house. This unique cottage was built in 1870 as the original lighthouse for Geraldton having a small tower on the western end with a light which lined up with another one on the beach some 150 metres ...

    Geraldton

... took a decided turn for the worse as we endured heavy rain which was lashed by gale force winds. Not the farewell from Geraldton we want to remember it by. The sound of the waves crashing on the beach across the road tonight is quite terrifying. Both the volume and strength of the seas is unnerving and unimaginable and further explains the reputation of this part of WA's shipwreck ...
