... landed at this one beach where there were all kinds of sports to check out. They had this huge tubes that caught air as the speed boat got going , the tube went about 50 ft in the air, looked way cool but was expensive. There was snorkeling, fishing, etc. I decided to try out parasailing which was really fun , I was able to take my video camera and caught some great footage from up above. Check out my attached movie video!<br ...
Denpasar, Bali, Indonesia keithandbeth... abandoning it completely as she walked and I navigated the bike down a trekking track. We’d completely lost the surfer after the sandpit incident and relied completely on a few old women sitting in the middle of a field and us saying ‘beach’ and looking lost and them pointing in the general direction of a very narrow track. The embarrassing thing about the whole situation wasn’t even when we managed to drive back into part of the ceremony but it ...
Denpasar, Bali, Indonesia ciaradoonerushLast night we made arrangements with
Sari, who we met on the couchsurfing website. We are to drop off our
bags at her house (her son and her maid will be home) and then meet
Sari and her husband Baggi after they are finished with work around
6pm. Sari lives a few kilometers off the main road in an enclave
with similar styled homes that is surrounded by small rice fields.
Sari's maid is very nice (we never get her name) – she greets us
with a large smile ...
Denpasar, Bali, Indonesia carlaandmike... procession in Tabanan produced many versions of Pendet. One was danced by a member of the household, who presented the family's offerings in a slow Pendet before the approaching wave of thousands of people. In larger villages, a selected group of young girls, bare-shouldered and formally dressed in wraps of gold cloth, carried silver bowls of flowers as they danced a more elaborate Pendet, choreographed in interweaving rows and files. When the procession settled before a ...
Denpasar, Bali, Indonesia ardhanAnother day with Mr Yium Yium today. I really wanted to visit the markets in Denpasar, Bali's capital. These are local markets, not really on the tourist route and a far more authentic experience of Asia. First though we had to get across the road. It was heaving with Scooters and Trucks. The solution, I decided, was like in Vietnam - just slowly walk across the road, eyeballing the oncoming vehicles, and let them go around you. I don't think my ...
Denpasar, Bali, Indonesia darrenstravels... all around. But, I could live without all the ants and mosquitoes and weird beetle bugs and spiders and even some of the grasshoppers (the largest I've ever seen in my life) I would do without. Speaking of spiders, a huge one was inside our extra rolls of toilet paper. I had seen this guy once before, screaming when he was just on the wall. Thank god we now had a guy here who could help us out by shooing it away, at least long enough for us to use the bathroom. It's ...
Ubud, Bali, Indonesia snclark8... on to dinner at Warung Italia. It was delicious and incredibly cheap. We fed ten people, no not fed but stuffed 10 people, for about 40 US dollars with drinks. The selection in the showcase is wonderful and the pizzas were delicious. I would go back there again! We took a cab back to the hotel, and though the streets were busy we still did not pay that much. I think we will keep our hotel...tomorrow shopping!
Denpasar, Bali, Indonesia graceonthego... wasn't bad but I was annoyed that we had to pay the entrance fee and then for every single bit they were telling us "donation, donation..." they really sounded like a broken record. :-) Anyway, there were some nice views from the cliffs surrounding the Tanah Lot temple. We then drove around the country side to see Jatiluwith rice terraces (see photos). The green colour was just awesome. Our net stop was Ulun Danu temple on the lake ...
Bali, Indonesia rvsDescribe Bali? This is a start.... Stone carvings decorating houses, temples, street corners...everywhere. Gods, goddesses, indescribable creatures...well taken care of ...all wearing cloth sarongs and waist sashes and most with a parasol over their heads. Offerings, every morning and every evening...around temples, in front of homes, stores, stairways, bicycles...anywhere that might be accessible to an ...
Denpasar, Bali, Indonesia rawhideoneDay 1, Saturday Got up early and left Hong Kong for Bali. Had time to go down the street and get a McDonald's breakfast where there were so many people coming in for breakfast or coffee/tea who had obviously been out partying all night! This was 6 am. Caught the Airport Express bus from our old Hotel the YMCA and got to the airport with plenty of time. Uneventable trip until we got to Bali. Paid our $25 entry visa payment and then ended up waiting in line for about 45 ...
