A day of cold and hot
... I was taking no chances at racing around the wonderful sweeping bends as you never know if there is a snow drift or ice on the road.
The road soon became extremely windy and twisty and soon I was heading up a pass. The last 20 or so miles had been in trees and bush with not much to be seen and the temp was now up to 7 Celsius. However that high temp was not going to last and as the road got higher it got colder.
Soon the trees and bushes disappeared ...
What a journey
... 10seconds and the correct hand as well. We did see this person later on with one glove....oops. He didn,t fess up and I kept walking. So nicks glove is down the slopes somewhere. We saw the Swiss ski team juniors for 2017 finishing their training. Picked up train again to alp grim, then onto night at poschiavo. Small Swiss town everyone said hello in their language which seems a mix of Swiss,Italian,French,German .so heading off today to Milan for 2nights then we think to lake ...
No marmite, just rain
Given that the roads around the Northern part of Lake Garda were closed to accommodate the marathon, we didn't find it at all difficult to navigate our way on foot, around to the harbour of Torbole, which is approx 3 km's to the East of Riva del Garda where we were walking yesterday.
The cycle route is clearly marked around round the lake, and can be a little treacherous on blind bends if you choose to head out to the Ponale Hydroelectric power plant which can be found ...
Hiking ahead of the marathon
... the Bastion to all visiting the area as the views are pretty spectacular, even on a cloudy day like today. It's a 30 minute climb up a purpose built pathway and a nice walk. The chapel is a much longer climb but still achievable if you take it slowly and are prepared to scramble a little towards the end, again worth it for the views.
The rain held off, although the pine tree surrounds would have no doubt kept ...
Mount Brione and old Austrian Forts.
... up Mount Brione was steps the whole way, passing a few more forts although there wasnt as much left of them as Fort San Nicolo. The sun was out so we worked up a sweat over the next hour. There are other creatures that also enjoy sun...we disturbed a SNAKE. Funny, I'd never thought about snakes being in Italy. The view from the top was amazing, we could look out over the ...
