a quasi trip to the coast

tiny rafts of foam clustered together at the surface of the quickly-warming beer, the miniscule bubbles clinging desperately together as if aware and terrified of their fast-approaching fate. i closed my fingers around the chipped glass and swirled the last two sips around a few times, sending the bits of foam soaring out to the edges like the thrilled passengers of the beloved state fair gravitron ride. it was the last of my second pint of the afternoon, and the spreading green lawn and rust...

Kenya 2008 Impact Women's Conference

The women's conference was a great success! Many women from Kenya and Uganda asked me to pray for them. The Lord truly love His children. The women were set free from depression, fear and witchcraft. One woman was healed by the power of prayer. Even though the war had prevented many people from visiting Kenya and this caused them to feel hopeless, I assured the women that were present at the conference to keep their eyes on Jesus Christ. This war is only a distraction in getting them to keep...

We visited an orphanage outside of Nairobi City. A little girl named Rebecca played with me the entire time. She is so cute.

Neno Evangelsim Centre

We attended church services at Neno Evangelism Centre, Apostle James Nganga is the pastor and our host for the conference. I can truly say that this is a "man of God" who move in the gifts of the Holy Spirit. Apostle Nganga and his missions administrator, Pastor Duncan Miano and the entire church family served us as though they have known us all our lives. They made us truly welcomed. I literally felt at home.

Agape Children's Center

We visited this orphanage in Kikuyu District. It is the home of Pastor Duncan and Jane Miano. They have more than 16 orphans (plus their 4 children) living in their home. The children shared their testimony with us. As you can see from the photo album, they are very happy to have a mother and father that truly love them.

... need to contribute positively to the community and how could they do that as orphans? He said he would do everything he could to help her, free medicine, he would pay for her membership into a microfinance group so she could earn a living, he would do anything he could, but to please don't give up. He had to leave for a meeting, but he told her all of this, and said he would be back at three to meet her and pay for her to get into the microfinance and help her sort things out. She ...

Unexpected Blessings

... br>Back at Patrick’s home, the women were beginning to prepare the meal. Jackie and I offered to help. They seemed amused by this and were impressed at our ability to chop vegetables and stir. Pauline asked us how many servants we had at home. We laughed, and they were quite surprised to learn that we had none. “You cook and clean and wash clothes?” she asked. I said yes, but explained that we had machines to help. Patrick’s wife speaks very ...

First day in Africa!

... cough, which is still bothering me, and try some cow head boled meet. Then, taking care of business, I am getting a local SIM card, checking email, then we are off to Nairobi. The plan is to see the museum, and the American Embassy bombing site, then go to a local restaurant, and experience Nairobi night life.

First day in Kibera

... beginning of me understanding it. The basic idea is that people from the outside telling locals what to do, how to change, will never work. The only thing that will work is locals deciding what to do, and we can only help them make that change. We are going to get together with her before she leaves because she had some really great ideas that we can start to develop in the states. But onto Kibera.

Kibera is the 2nd largest slum in Africa. There ...

... with Rosemary and Titus again who continued to take great care of us. I think we can say that so far on our trip Kenyans win the prize for greatest hospitality. In Nairobi we took day trips around the city and visited the National Museum and an Elephant orphanage. The orphanage center rescues abandoned or hurt baby elephants and then eventually reintroduces them back into the wild. The stories of some of these small babies was so sad but to see them right before ...
