Cappadocia - the most magical place

... river as it meandered for about an hour. It was a pretty walk and reminded us of walks in Hawkes Bay at home, it made Olivia feel a little bit homesick. We ended up at a restaurant and were the only ones (along with the Canadians) to brave sitting cross-legged out side in the sunshine while eating lunch.

Onto another Monastery hewn from rocks in the hill side this time at Yaprakhisar (and I thought some Maori names were ************ounce). It certainly would ...

"Pide with cheese...and...WEDGE-IT-TABLES!"

... Lines. They are cheesy and awkward. The person in front of you is never going the right pace, the person behind you is always falling into you. They are pretty bad...so I ducked out, had a laugh and some lamb on the sides...

The conga line went around the room and out of the building to a big bonfire before coming back in, at which point the audience was asked to reperform the courting ceremony, with Phoenix asked to sit in as the princess. She got Jeremy to ...

... until we arrived at our dinner location. The restaurant was old- older than the time of the Crusades. We ate on the rooftop which permitted us an amazing view of the ancient walls of the city. The food was very good- eggplant, tomato, lamb, peppers and a wonderful dessert called wiggling woman- a crepe like pastry with honey and fresh pistaccios. There was an engagement party going on. The bride ...

Another wauw

Today was a semi-early start, it was at 8.30pm, but some people did find it a little hard as they had been out the previous night to a Turkish cultural night with a all you can drink bar...and you know how that usually works out. The first thing on the itinerary was a trek through a valley where we could get close to some of the rock formations, it felt a bit like walking through a by gone time, the only thing that was missing was the dinosaur or other ...

Ankara and Ataturk

... the Turkish state is a result of his energy and vision: that without him there would be no Turkey! And this devotion is evident everywhere in the entire country...his image is on stamps and bank notes, there are many, many statues, and his name is everywhere. Kids can recite facts about his life and achievements and it is even illegal to say anything about him that might be construed ...

Asher - Day 1 Cappadocia

Today was half good and half not good. The not good part was in the morning. We had to wake up at 4:30 for an early 7:15 flight to Kayseri, in Cappadocia. I tried falling asleep on the plane, but for me that is nearly impossible. After the flight, we rented a car and things started to improve. We drove to our hotel in Urgup, a town close to the rock formations that we were interested in. We were greeted by the ...

Off to Cappadocia

... devices ended up down in the hold and some children had to find alternate entertainment on the 5 hour trip. This is a photo from the bus. The terrain changes pretty dramatically after you leave the big city. -later- It's getting pretty late and tomorrow is a big day. I'm only uploading 10 photos because, shockingly, the wireless connection inside this ancient cave is a little slow. I'd probably bag the whole thing for tonight, but it's absolutely gorgeous out ...

Extreme times in Cappadoccia

... prices, we managed to get an awsome package deal from a car rental company in town. We started out this afternoon racing out of Urgup on quad bikes. Shaun and Jeannie followed in a dune buggy and we tailed after our guide leader on a quad of his own. We had trouble staying on the road due to the view! I kept having to whip my head back around from it drifting from side to side. The land around here is unreal! Something out of Star Wars (the ...
