... once was. Before leaving though I felt I should call at Nong Prew Beach Bar for a late lunch and a chat with the lady there who has been a friend for many years. I had met her latest boyfriend, a chap from Leeds, at the beginning of my stay this year. She told me that she might be leaving in March as he was coming back to Thailand and she said they might get married. She thought he was a “good man” and asked my opinion as to whether I thought she would ...

I ate at the Gold Elephant Restaurant that night. where one of my favourites was their set meal for one comprising spring rolls, fried pork with garlic, green curry with chicken and steamed rice. After lunch, begin elephant trekking through the tropical rainforest, explore nature, the abundant vegetation of bamboo, tree, rattan overhangs, lianas, swaying palms and tropical flora.

Dinner was a soup, fried rice, and a noodle meal, yum! After dinner we went down to the dive deck and set up our dive gear then back upstairs and charged our electronics in the cabin.

Colin gave me my nitrox course book and I had a little look at this. Then off for a shower and in bed by 11:00.

... was a corridor that held our sleeping quarters on both sides. A sundeck opened up at the front to lay and lounge, while ladders at either end of the boat brought us to the briefing and eating area. One of the key requirements was to be qualified to dive to depths of 30m (nearly 100ft!), with my OW training only allowing me to go 18m at present. After some coaxing and gentle persuading to do my Advanced OW while on this trip, it just seemed ...
