... organized, for our final night together, a beautiful candlelit group dinner right on the shore line under the stars. It was a really wonderful way to say goodbye and thank him for being a truly amazing tour leader, with good food and drink. Our trip has been seamless so far, not one wrinkle, so maybe we were due? Maybe this is karma slapping me for loathing the Kick the Can guy and the Russians atop Mt. Sinai? Sigh...

As we waited, we were befriended by a Jordanian family with four sons and one daughter. They spoke very ...

A destination is not a place but a way of seeing

... on this beach; uneventful until a soldier with gun and bayonet attached (!) came to visit.

Security is tight on Sinai. Three frightening terrorist attacks in the last 5/6 years resulting in many dead with confusing ideas about who and why is responsible. The many checkpoints make up in enthusiasm what they lack in efficiency. They grabbed our passports, fought over who was to hold them (foreign passports!) and read them cover to cover as if perusing ...
