... TravelPod" is a complete pain in the a@$ to use. For our 2010 "Radical Sabbatical" trip to Asia, I'm switching to another web service.
But, I've promised myself that I'll update this blog before we leave Naples...
Ola Kala: simply, OK (in Greek). No time for lots of flap.....we're on the go. The Vatican Museums await us (and we can hardly wait to do more walking!). Enjoy the pictures and we'll fill you in on the adventure next time I make the time to sit and gab.
We're still having a grand time!!!!!
... so far.
Naples is not a nice city, but it's a cool city. Venice, Florence, Verona are all nice, but once you've seen the sights, there isn't much else to them.
Walking around the Spaccanapoli district saw some really cool stalls and shops - some that looked like they had been there for ages and not changed much at all. Old school book stores with books piled high and seemingly without any order or system, a stretch on San Sebastiano that ...
... Then we walked around the town and saw some churches. In one church there was a statue of Mary and baby Jesus. The story is that it came from a church in Istanbul. Pirates stole it from Istanbul, but when they passed Positano a huge storm came up. The sailors heard a voice saying, "Drop it, drop it", and they thought it was God telling them to drop the statue, so they dumped it out of the boat. Then the storm stopped immediately. We then walked on a cool path ...
Positano, Campania, Italy zolab... mountain and the monestry, which is the heart of the Benedictine order. We were lucky enough to have a guide who knew all the tricks and so I was able to photograph the Byzantine mosaics, which were luckily not destroyed by the carpet bombing of the monestry. After that we headed to cemetry were we paid our respects to the New Zealand soldiers that lost their lives there, which always affects me deeply. The boys who died were ...
Positano, Italy jaq123... arch. The tour included a seafood lunch at this small restaurant on the beach, and the fish we ate had been caught by our captain that morning - tuna and anchovies. There was so much food, and we at all of it!! Antipasto, tuna sashimi style, pasta, anchovies cooked whole in a crispy batter (really good), tuna steaks grilled with mint, fruit platter and ice cream. We all got a little worried that it was never going to end, but I say bring it on!! We had some time ...
Positano, Italy lozdotcomI woke up this morning to a beautiful view of the town overlooking the ocean and there was a moment of sun. Then, it started raining again... it's still beautiful. I can spend a whole day just walking around here although the hills and steps are not forgiving on my knees. Eh! Whatever. I lucked out however because I met these 3 American girls who offered me a ride down the hill and we got stuck in the rain that turned into hail by the time we got there ...
