Making our way through Cambodia

... surprisingly didn't mind the mouse too much as it just tasted like chicken! Next stop was the bat caves where we saw 4-5 million bats flying out of a cave together, like they do everyday at 5:30pm. It takes a whole hour for them all to fly out and was a pretty cool thing to see. In the evening we travelled to Phare Ponleu Selpak Circus - a performance by local disadvantaged teenagers. ... This was the first reclining buddha I've ever seen. We took pictures and Salorm did her prayers, then we came back down to the village. From here it was off to "Kbal Spean" a nearby river that actually has a carved river bed. It's known as the "River Of 1,000 Lingas". It was one of those "how did they do that?" moments. I found the club to be fascinating - I genuinely ...

... sell inside from photographs, clothing, tapestry etc. We stayed for a latte and walked by the river to get back to our hostel. On the way we saw a stool of fried insects including snakes on a stick and birds. I don't think I could ever bring myself to try any of it. The streets every single night, especially in Phnom Penh are full of locals having picnics and socialising in the square by the river, they are a ...

Cambodia: The story

A travel blog entry by carlstravelblog on Oct 20, 2014

... Phnom Penh has a beautiful riverside area for strolling and exploring. It also has some nice temples and a national museum and Grand Palace that are worth visiting. I even went to the pictures when I was here 3.50 dollars all day! Again the range, quality and great prices of the food are awesome.

The negatives

Not many to be honest. The tuk-tuk drivers can be annoying but this is SE asia and I found them to be friendly if also persistant. A couple ...
