Shaken not stirred!

We have had one hell of a hourney to Nepal. We left India yesterday and boarded a coach destined for Nepal. To say it was a bumpy hourney is a bit of an understatement. We were shalen around for not 1 but 12 hours !!!!!! Not the most comfortable of hourneys. We arrivedm very tired in Nepal about 7pm and settled into our hotel for some well earned dinner.

Today we have endured another 7 hour coach ride (a smaller and less bumpy coach this time). Nepal is truly beautiful. A real contrast...

An 'Elephantastic' Day

So day 3 in Nepal has to be one of the best days we have had. I know I keep saying it's the best day, but this is day we will both never forget. Definitely one to tell the grandkids!!!

We woke up early again, in order to visit the local elephant breeding centre. To get there we traveled on the roof of a jeep and a particularly small boat across the river. The boat was made from a single tree trunk and all 7 passengers had to keep it balanced!

At the centre we were met by a num...

... distance. Luckily it didn't attack and we continued on our walk seeing some small animals, but nothing like that rhino again. The next morning I went to the elephant breeding center to see some cute little elephants who could walk freely around and were very playful. From 10 - 12 there is elephant bathing in the town so I went up there in my swimming shorts and washed an elephant! Well she washed me more than I her, but it was lots of fun to do it ...

Out of the Mountains for some wildlife

Hello Everyone,
Just wanted to say hello. We just spent two days in Royal Chitwan National Park hoping to see some animals. It is a beautiful place and we got to see a huge one horned rhino. It was a fun and quick trip. We did more looking than picture taking so sorry no photos.

Hope all is well

Not a Rhino in site

... We did however see several 'dead' lorries but arrived safely. This was a Nepalese 'resort' hotel, please suspend all western images; Jacqueline tried a different room each of the 3 nights & only once did we get them to light the candles under the buffet - the tecnique was to get in quick. No-one had told us on booking that we were 3km from town (&internet & laundry) so the trekking gear went in the bath. Nepalese life enchroaches everywhere so the canoe rides, nature ...

... is to spot one-horn rhinos while sitting on top of an elephant, and if you are lucky, and I mean you have to be really, really lucky and with plenty of time, a tiger or a leopard. I get there with a good mood and sort of enthusiastic to do this activity, but this doesn't last long, as I met a couple of Israeli girls I walked with in the Annapurnas that narrate me their disappointment with the whole program. I have to admit that their not so optimistic comments end ...

... got really close to them. The elephant wasn't that comfy which wasn't brill for Em's stomach and we kept on getting hit by branches which was pretty funny. Was a cool experience to ride an elephant.

After the safari we went down to the Rapti river were all the mahouts bring their elephants to wash them in the morning. You can pay 100 rupees (70p) to go in the water with them so we gave it a go. It was brilliant. You have to climb ...

The Elephant Man

... way to spend the festival with his family and agreed to take me along if I wanted to take the local bus. I agreed, as I usually prefer the local busses just to be able to meet some locals. What I didn't know is that he was giving up his seat to me. He rode sitting on the console near the shifter and his son spent most of the trip on my lap - the kid was motion sick and puking most of our journey. Joy.

I eventually made it near my destination and negotiated with a horse-and ...
