... It can all be managed of course but if we can get Allen feeling better we would much rather continue on – even if it means a slower pace. We planned to be in Spain Dec 14 so we could just hang out somewhere until then and let Allen heal if we feel confident that he is getting better and this is just a short term problem. We have a long sleepless night. Allen is sure there is something more going on than just his back. The pain in his left thigh is excruciating and spasms whenever he sits up or stands. We return to the hospital. The Doctor thinks he has a small tear in his thigh muscle in addition to the back pain. The pills for one are good for the other. We are told he should stay off it, rest for a few days and ice the thigh 3 times a day. ...

The oldest and most interesting part of the University to visit is the old former royal palace which overlooks the city. From 1131 King Afonso Henriques lived here and all the kings of the 1st dynasty were born here. At first law, medicine, grammar and logic were taught. Later astronomy and geometry were added. At one time 98% of the students were enrolled in medicine and law. ...

... way so no other tests are needed. We are told the first Doctor did the right thing with the shots but Allen needs something stronger. He is given a prescription for pain, inflammation and to relax the muscles. We have been at the hospital for about 3 hours. The total cost for everything except the prescriptions is 22 euros or $27.50. We head to the hotel and dinner.
