Mixed reviews on the SANTIKA. Though the rooms were more than satisfactory and the breakfast buffet offered a wonderful selection of western and Indonesian food (though the coffee and tea should be served hotter) the hotel's location was disappointing. A drive to the city center takes between 20 to 30 minutes due to the traffic. Rooms we're clean and modern. The hotel has a lovely pool and there is free wifi. Except for location the hotel was great.

... talk until we got to the island. As we got off the island, we realized that the island was really small. We started walking to one end, and in twenty minutes we were at the end of the island. Also, what we realized that is that the island beaches were not the most cleanest, and the reason perhaps was that almost every tourist on the island was an Indonesian. This was clearly a very much local destination for residents of Jakarta. The island was basically one ...

... the bus stays with you throughout the stops. Apparently, Jakarta is known for its myriad of shops, malls,supermarkets...each featuring slightly different goods. The tour will visit some of the famous areas and 'not-so-famous' areas (?)...and haggling is part of everyday life here!! Sounds exciting!!!..tbd... I'll finish this post trip...and hopefully get lucky with dock/terminal wifi?? Touring Jakarta / shopping.. 3 stops...4 - including the parking lot drive in to ...

          Weekend in Jakarta

A travel blog entry by niomioconnor on Jun 15, 2014

... good snacks we hadn't seen or heard of before! We're staying at Ezta's house this weekend, the lady we met in Lombok and stayed with for a few nights. We had to get a taxi to Ezta's office, which took ages because the traffic in Jakarta is really bad and as always the taxi driver didn't really know where he was going... What a surprise! Ezta then drove us back to her house, which is located in a really nice area of Jakarta. She shares a ...

... but it was quite out of our price range. In any case, it was fascinating. Then we headed off to Old Jakarta, and visited a Wayung Museum (shadow puppet) where we met a very friendly, and possibly quite drunk Indonesian man who practiced his muay thai positions with Thomas and Kyle - very funny.

On the suggestion of Vio, we tried out the Cafe Batavia that's pretty much the central part of the old town, as the Dutch built most of it. From the outside, the Cafe ...

          Trouble in Jakarta...

Just another short story but something worth mentioning none the less.

Before arriving in Bali, I had a 6 hour layover in Jakarta, the capitol and largest city in Indonesia. Since this was my port of entry into Indonesia this is where I would be receiving my visa into the country. First let me just mention that Jakarta is a massive city! I new it was the largest in Indonesia, but arriving in the plane at night I was able to see just how expansive ...
