Mixed reviews on the SANTIKA. Though the rooms were more than satisfactory and the breakfast buffet offered a wonderful selection of western and Indonesian food (though the coffee and tea should be served hotter) the hotel's location was disappointing. A drive to the city center takes between 20 to 30 minutes due to the traffic. Rooms we're clean and modern. The hotel has a lovely pool and there is free wifi. Except for location the hotel was great.

... buy just about anything at this shopping center. While there, a trip to the money exchanger and some shopping. Later for supper we went to the Bander Jakarta Restaurant. After that it was back to our host's home where I met her son (Francis) who was educated in America and is quite fluent in English. There is also a maid who does most of the house work.

My favourite fact was that a local King had 78 children - and this was relatively recent. We then had the local dish of Gudeg which was my favourite Indonesian dish. It is Chicken in coconut sauce with cow fat, jackfruit, soya meat and fried rice - so good! We then had a rickshaw ride in trying some local sweets - Backpia & Geplak ...

... get to Jakarta, driving mostly on the shoulder, but still manageable. I've known other times where it's taken almost 10 hours to get to Jakarta. This trip, was pretty much 5 hours to the airport and it sucked. In any case, we got to the airport, waited a considerable amount of time for Thomas to arrive with a poster I made, only for him to come out a different area and walk up behind us.

Hugs hugs hugs and then we're off to Mangga Besar to check into our hotel.

... in imported food, and with both Me and Matt pining for some proper cheese after 7 plus months without it we decided to give it a visit. We came away broke but very happy armed with frosties, pringles, real ham, danish blue, seriously strong cheddar, brie, applewood smoked, water biscuits, quiche and French bread. Matt even found a sausage roll! We couldn't drink wine but we made up for it eating bucket loads of food!!
