... for the slave trade, but suffered economic decline after slave trade abolished in 1876. Today, the majority of people are of mixed Portuguese and African ancestry. ... the cruise passengers were just a nuisance. Some passengers bought T-shirts and tie-dyed sun dresses, but there really wasn't any other souvenirs to consider. I enjoyed taking pictures of the little girls at a nearby shopping spot, but you can see they weren't phased and one had quite the attitude, although they were polite. They just wanted to enjoy their treats.
