      ... a dormant air though which spoke of once great majesty, another human being appeared, a maid, and she indicated that we enjoy the gardens until the management arrived.

      ... fishy" about the place (pun completely intended!) and I was right - the water was full of all sorts of creatures, big fish, little fish (no cardboard boxes!), crabs, snails of all sorts of colours, eels and jelly fish...
