... ve got to give some credit to a city that gave Gaudi license. They might have lost that gamble, but no, tourists come in by the busloads to take pictures of the cherubim and seraphim and… themselves. The Arc is interesting, too, made out of brick, so not a copy of the French model like every other one I’ve seen. That’s something Spain has in common with Poland, I guess, the copious use of brick. They also have a ...
Andorra la Vella, Andorra hardiek... days will get some entries soon.
Today, we started from France, and drove a few miles into Andorra. So we have now done 10 of the 11 countires!!
Photos to follow, I'll just go back and put some news on the other days, then get photos loaded up. That takes ages.
... the watershed and we drop into the Spanish frontier town of Bourg Madame. We continue east across a wide plane undulating over the Col De Llous (1345m) and the Col De la Perche (1570m). From here a unbelievably long descent takes us nearly al the way to our
hotel. Prades has a reassuringly Mediterranean feel about it, with lots of courtyard cafe's and
clay tiled roofs.
WHAT I EXPERIENCED:
... atmosphere, and seems like a giant, tacky duty free shop - exactly as described by guidebooks. Truthfully, I'm only here to get a fridge magnet, which almost seems pointless, now that I have a stainless steel fridge and have no place to put them!
A wander around town didn't turn up much of interest ... people come here to shop and apparently, for little else. There isn't an internet cafe in town, only a very expensive coin-operated ...
... in days of old. We had intended to spend the night near Lourdes but it was still sunny and the Pyrenees were beckoning us. After a great meal at an Italian restaurant near the main Tourist Info booth, we set PG for Andorra da Ville. The only word that came to mind, again, was Sugoi (the Japanese word for fantastic). Where yesterday we had no view of the mountains today they were all around us. The highway PG chose took us in to Spain through an amazing ...
Andorra la Vella, Andorra marybc... Festa Brava hotel. I seriously considered going snowboarding, but it was just too late in the season and the snow, though plentiful, was just too wet for my tastes. So I wandered about town, dodging the hourly rainfall and taking in the sights. Not too much to be seen here, but nice to look around a place I had no idea even existed!
Andorra la Vella, Andorra trent... a massive water park inside a massive silver church like structure, but that's literally all it has- that and ****** shops everywhere. Andorra considers itself one of the shopping capitals of the world, but its basically just the Potteries centre with a few fast food outlets and a national anthem. I ate my dinner at a combined KFC/Pizza Hutt outlet- basically this particularly **** idea consisted of setting up a joint franchise with a limited selection of both companies food ...
Andorra la vella, Andorra englishanddrunk... it is cheating slightly we pay the 40 Euros - slightly more than the others will be spending - and catch the train to Perpignan. On the train we decide this must have been a blessing in disguise as we read in Andre's book that Salvidor Dali actually said that Perpignan train station was the centre of the universe - what a privilege to visit such a place. When we disembark the train we find the others walking into the train station to meet us...........
Canillo, Andorra neil_edwards... wheel and breaks can't be that dangerous right? Wrong! The kid and I get about half way down the hill and disaster, we are going too fast to stop, the kid does 3 somersaults before stopping a few meters further down the hill, but she soon stops crying afterwards. We play in the snow all morning, small scale snow fights and sliding down the hill, the perfect morning. We are quickly joined by the other 2 who were left behind in Toulouse ...
Canillo, Midi-Pyrénées, Andorra sian_ripley... is a world away from the one at Tamarit. High above sea level and set in a gorgeous valley, the air is much fresher. The kids arrived the day after I did - dropped off by their parents dragging out suitcases double thier own size from all ranges of bmws and 4x4s. As well as our English classes we´ve been assigned another activity class to take - I have been given ´Save the Planet´ which should be interesting with ...
