... to the hostel). Bruges was just absolutely incredible all the way through.
At the train station, we had one final waffle at Haagen Daz, then boarded the TGV high-speed train to get back to Paris. Our trip had a bit of a rocky start, but our tour of the VanAcker homeland was definitely a rousing success. A strange thing that I noticed was how much I've already started to think of France as a comfortable home base. After dealing with the craziness that ...
... us at the house of Arn and Joy in Idaho Falls. From there we'll head back to the Coast. So we're looking for 2 place to crash in between Idaho Falls and Eugene. In Eugene, Mary will take care of us. After Eugene the long traveldays are over. We'll stay for 2 days in Portland with Scott and Rose and then 1 day with John in Arch Cape. We'll end our travel back in Seattle.
Antwerp, Antwerpen, Belgium topanga... concerned for my welfare. He had a flourescent vest that he used for his work on minesites and gave it to me because I might not be seen on the side of the road at night. Although very nice of him, it isn't really practical because no one would pick up someone who is wearing a construction vest. You would look like some renegade from a work gang on an excursion from prison. So my first entry to Belgium came when an old man picked me up near the border. He ...
Brussels, Belgium amullett... places, and should, if the German customs leave me alone this time, arrive in Munich for dinner. After 3-4 days in Munich, i shall take the train to Salzburg, Austria, then up to Prague, Dresden & Berlin. This is only a basic plan - i promise nothing... but, ill keep you posted in the future, Jake.
Antwerp, Belgium jakednbHad a short stop in Brussels to catch the night train to Berlin, Germany. It was late when we arrived and nothing was open so it kind of sucked. It was cold out which I did not mind. I was a spot of travel lag so I was ready to my berthing compartment so I could get a goods night rest!
Brussels, Belgium xtogo... to be geared to tourists, but steps away from the square, in the side streets, you'll find some excellent places favored by the locals. One of my favorites is the somewhat pricey Neuze Neuze, which is pronounced, roughly, "Noysuh Noysuh". (neuzeneuze.be). If you want to try horse -- which many Americans don't -- De Peerdestal, in a converted stable, is a local standard. The previously mentioned south district, 'Het Zuid', is known for its trendy cafés and restaurants ...
Antwerp, Belgium janessmartart... that today one could decide to scoff any number of different kind of waffles around the globe. There is the American waffle, the Virginia waffle, the potato waffle from the U.K., Hong Kong style waffles, Korean style waffles and Vietnamese style waffles, to name just a few. But rest assured, the leavened version descended from 'wafers' that I was enjoying this morning was indeed, most likely...probably...maybe, invented in Belgium. Oh, who cares? It was delicious. Properly ...
Brussels, Belgium danschedler... a massive man made lake with a water park in the middle of it. People camp here for the summer but also lots just visit for day trips to the water park. We spent the evening riding our bikes around the lagoon just in time before a thunder storm hit. We had a lovely evening of relaxing, drinking more Moet and reading before getting a good nights sleep. Day 87 - Wednesday 10th May 2006 We headed into the centre of Antwerpen today and found a great camping ground about 5 minutes out of the ...
Brugge, Belgium gemway... feel to it. Nice and quiet due to not being right in the middle of things and still an easy walk to the center and the old part of the city. In the old center is a magnificent Cathedral - Onze Lieve Vrouwkathedraal. It has four paintings by Rubens as well as a beautiful painting in the ceiling's cupula. The Cathedral is surrounded by a pedestrian area with lots of wonderful chocolate shops where, of course, we bought chocolate. Around the ...
Antwerp, Belgium chronometers... the money or time, but now, we were all over EVERYTHING. At dinner, we had come up with a plan to each order a beer and share it until it was done, but now, we had no problem with sipping it for awhile before sending it away for another delicious beer (see Pictures 13 - 15). As a result, our table began to pile the half-drunken pints. All flavors. All colors. All aromas. Each of them were wonderful (see Picture 20). The setting was magnificent with the gothic buildings surrounding ...
