We left High Level at about 09:00 and headed south on the Mackenzie Highway (Hwy 35). The scenery like much of the scenery in northern Alberta is very flat and rather boring, with long straight roads and endless farmland. After a couple of hours we reached Peace River. The town of Peace River was rather larger than we had expected situated on the banks of the Peace River. Once off the highway the downtown area is fairly small and compact with a pleasant park area overlooking the river. In the...

Hopefully, getting through security will be good and easy and the flight will be boring. I wonder what the quality of food now is like on the airplane... I must admit, I'm one of the weird people that enjoy airline food!
If I get an internet connection in London, I'll update there. If not, I'll have to find one in Sweden.
... of the pizza back to the hostel where I stored it university housing style in a plastic bag with my name on it in tape. I would eat it for dinner and live on the cheap after my expensive day of eating. After the $36 dollar breakfast and lunch yesterday I ate a wrap for $7 dollars on my long walk home. So after storing my pizza I went out determined to take in the beautiful day. I went to the end of Whyte Ave where the university of ...

Dubai for London August 1st Leave London for Edmonton on August 3rd The basic run down of my trip: I'll be using a backpacker hop on hop off bus called Baz Bus during my stay in South Africa. Essentially this isn't a tour and they don't hold your hand either. It's a safe reliable transport to and from hostels between major coastal cities and towns in South Africa used primarily by young backpackers (like myself). I plan on ...

So although I am prepared for the foreboding chill that I know is on its way, I feel a sense of tranquility in this moment. One last warm hug from summer before the winter cover quiets the streets. This pause between the transformation between life and death is powerful. And this time I feel it.
Edmonton, Alberta, Canada whereshegoes... The food at the restaurant at the hotel was nothing to write home about but the waitress was absolutely charming. Try looking for somewhere else to eat. Breakfast is bread and more bread like every other meal. If you want a big breakfast; find a McDonalds!
Edmonton, Alberta, Canada jeanikins... up under the hot sun, asking these and all kinds of similar questions, and all us volunteers could do was feebly repeat the stock greeting for the games... 'Welcome to the Fifteenth Pan American Games, Rio de Janeiro, 2007'. This infuriated more than a few frustrated would-be fans, and so we also became practised in withstanding torrents of verbal abuse. It was good for me, since I was able to expand my growing vocabulary of profane words. Most of the ...

I dream, every nite in the softness of my sheets...that I will be strong and endure. I imagine that I will be a muscle machine anticipating the postures like a puma it's prey. I know this sounds ultra dramatic...but when you are challenging yourself...no holds barred. Grateful for tenacity.
Edmonton, Alberta, Canada whereshegoesLast night I didn't sleep so well because I started having some very active crazy dreams. I woke up at 6am feeling quite frazzled and probably shouldn't have gone back to sleep. But I did anyway. The frantic dreams just continued and I woke up even later than I meant to missing my early morning yoga class. So it was a bit of a bad start to the day. I did some work then a bit of running around before a ...
Edmonton, Alberta, Canada whereshegoesOne nice thing about Edmonton summers is the multitude of things to do at any given time, on any given day. If and when you are bored, it is completely your choosing. I have been feeling bored lately then I realized that this was a state in my control. So I decided to throw myself in the thick of things starting with a visit to the highly acclaimed Shakespeare in the Park. After a ...
