Accross the Prairies

We left High Level at about 09:00 and headed south on the Mackenzie Highway (Hwy 35). The scenery like much of the scenery in northern Alberta is very flat and rather boring, with long straight roads and endless farmland. After a couple of hours we reached Peace River. The town of Peace River was rather larger than we had expected situated on the banks of the Peace River. Once off the highway the downtown area is fairly small and compact with a pleasant park area overlooking the river. In the...

However we and another english import were defending ourselevs by taking the **** out of their language. How they say candy instead of sweets and how they say the words `right now` after every sentence. <br>We then had training. It was a shock to the system due to the fact we had done nothing but revision ...

... drive on the highway we found a campsite about 3 km from the centre which was great. It was our first Prairie like campsite, with miles and miles of open space on one side and brown, desert like hills on the other. Other than cattle grazing nearby there was not much traffic in the area and in the evening, as we were watching the sunset, we heard wolves howling........at least we think they were wolves. The next morning before heading off to ...

... there was the theme park. Galaxyland I think it was called. Terry and I were going to go on the 'Mindbender' which is the biggest ride there. Terry chickened out and said that he'd hold our coats, so instead Charlotte and I went on it. On the way up it stopped three times. The first time was because some guy had pulled a digital camera out just as we left and he wasn't allowed to have it. Then it stopped ...

... to Old Strathcona, where a fringe festival was happening. We sat and watched some comedy and had a browse through the markets there, followed by some lunch. By then we had run out of things to see in Edmonton so we headed back to the hotel and left to catch our flight mid-afternoon. Although we had a good weekend and Edmonton was pleasant enough, it's not a place I would visit again unless I knew somebody there.

... i knew to be the truth, From Extremely respectable sources as well as it just being the Unanimous decision Of north American society, Its not that it was the best way to live, But in fact The only way, So Why question it? Since I've always had it good, I can not complain. ... I remember having this happen to me so often that it became less of a puzzle and more of a reassurance. Of what, I am not sure. I just know that I'd rather see it as a sign that the universe is unfolding exactly as it should be. Just a reminder that no matter how different we all may be, our lives are still intertwined, linked and related in some way or another. Grateful for interconnectedness.

... find, which turned out to be the Alberta parliament house. They were offering free tours of the building which we decided to take. That took a couple of hours, then a wander through the shops and back to our hotel. We needed to get our car and head back to Calgary to drop our hire car off back at the depot. The drive back was very uneventful but we did manage to catch an amazing sunset.
