... they were just arriving as we were heading for the island. It’s shallow there, so our ship anchored about 2 miles off shore and we rode a tender (smaller boat) into the docks for 'exploring on our own.’ You could take a taxi to find a couple nice beaches or a waterfall about 30 minutes from the dock (perhaps ‘not worth the effort’ we heard from a couple guides), and decided that we didn’t want to, so we didn’t. Also, I ...

I am actually rather sad to leave Bangkok, something I never thought I would feel. The weather, the people, the food, the ease of public transport, the prices, and the accommodations have been wonderful. I also really loved kind of getting into a routine here. The apartment really was a highlight with everything I needed and a great host. Again, I highly encourage you to check out Airbnb for your next trip. All packed up and a final goodbye to ...

It was nice not to have to rely on a tour bus or other people, we could go and do what we wanted. It's a gorgeous island out from the centre of Chaweng Beach. Our intention for the night was to watch the football at 3am (obviously Steve's idea) but after having tea we were shattered from the hiking we did during the day. One of the best days so ...

A travel blog entry by thewilkinsons on Apr 09, 2014

After a chilled out evening the night before, everyone actually felt ok so we had a good day of relaxation. That was until the evening! Did I do my job as best man and give him a good send off? Did I keep him on the Island? We'll actually it was the girls who decided to head into town and the boys decided to have a man night of BBQ and beers at the villa. At least that was the plan. The ...

... of sleaze and Ko Samui can't or doesn't want to reverse the process. It is a two kilometer stretch of "ladyboy" shows, bars, bangers and mash and sauerkraut restaurants, tourist Thai boxing and cheap shops selling T-shirts with slogans such as "I am available to ****" This is certainly not Rodeo Drive but to its credit I didn't spot any dwarf throwing. It was great fun for an evening but if I'd bought a cheap package deal in Copenhagen or Scunthorpe with the ...
