    ... in the evening.

Thursday morning, sure enough, was sunny. Hooray! And the bus was running. Double hooray! But now we only had one day to climb the mountain, meaning we had to catch the first bus up at 8:50, hike 17km and 1600 vertical metres between 10am and 5:30pm, and take the last bus back down at 5:50. On the upside, we were travelling light with just daypacks, and we were all feeling good. The first kilometre or so was very ...

    ... 40am.

    Piece of cake!!!

I climbed with 2 American's, Jeff and Nath. Jeff was fully equipped (which turned out to be very helpful), whilst Nath and I looked more like pathetic backpackers. Our outfit was crunched together with everything our backpacks had to offer for such an adventure.

It was somehow an appropriate paradigm for Japan wandering through the traditional, sculptured beauty of the park with a background of high tech skyscrapers. We took advantage of the available personal GPS-enabled digital audioguide to provide information on the park as we meandered. From the park we caught a tour boat up the Sumida River to Asakusa, which is ...

8 km walk from walk Magemo to Tsumago.

The guide book and the tourist information centre told me that it would take 3hours to walk it.
However I only had 2, as I got up way to late to actually do this walk. What can I say i did it in 1 1/2 hours :)

Rock'n Roll!!!! found the coolest little coffee shop in Tsumago.

    Fuji summit to Hakone Ryokan

Wasted no time going from the base of Fuji to our first onsen (hot spring baths). The minerals in the water are supposed to do good things for the skin. It felt amazing to rest our muscles and get clean after the trek. Checked into Hakone Suimeiso ryokan, a traditional Japanese guesthouse. This is where you are served a kaiseki meal in your room ...
