An early start, as we had an 8am train to catch to Nagoya. Our time in Takayama is over after three days and the sun is out for a second day. The forecast is 33C.
Our train trip was 2 1/2 hours and we only took an overnight bag with us as we are doing a one night stay. Our luggage has been forwarded by courier to our next hotel. This is a very common practice in Japan so our hotel arranged it all for us. Convenience stores also organise the process for ...

... himself telling us how much he enjoyed our visit and wishing us a safe journey and good health. These were such thoughtful and touching gestures - they brought tears to our eyes. We took a few photos, hugged and wished each other well, then boarded the train. As we pulled out, everyone was waving like crazy. Impossible to eat everything. Lunch took about 2.5 hours, relaxed chatter. Heichi's friend, Kazuo Ohashi who was a former mayor of Yamamuro came ...

We woke at 6:30 and showered and had breakfast of toast and coffee on our own. It's great to have the place to ourselves, a luxury that not many families can offer their guests. Shigeyaka came to the house just before 8 am and he gave us an itinerary for the entire day. It was like having our own personal tour guide. Heichi accompanied us and he arrived shortly after 8 am and we set off, as planned at 8:10. The itinerary reads as follows: 8:10 home starting 8:30 ...
