... it was so close made up for its shortcomings,

We drove home without mishap but it took us about 1 ½ hours to get through the motorway toll at Ventomiglia on Saturday afternoon. The Côte d'Azur is heaving with tourists and it is virtually impossible to go anywhere as you cannot park, have to queue for everything and are anyway unlikely to get in. The food is overpriced and the service is slow and don’t even think about going to the beach as you ...

    ... villages,
first up is Varenna which is a 7 minute cruise away, we land and it starts to rain and continues to rain so we walk arm in arm sheltering under a small umbrella exploring the sleepy village and it's three retail shops. Eventually I decided the umbrella wasn't big enough for the two of us and I forked out 8 euro for my own. ... rest and cooling in our blissfully air-conditioned suite, we set off for an evening exploration and some dinner. It felt strange and a bit spooky to be walking in my father's wartime footsteps. He must have walked past the cathedral and strolled along the lakeside and wandered through the appealing streets and squares. It was a good connection. It would have been nice to exchange notes with him, but sadly that remains in the realm of regret.

    HAPPY AND A BLESSED EASTER

Left MILAN very early, ho hum, for the drive north toward the snow covered Swiss Alps, headed
to the Italian Lake country, similar to the 'Lake country a round Pine Lake and Pewaukee lake.

But, this Italian Lake Country has 10 - 20 mile long lakes in deep valleys, surrounded by 200 ft stone cliffs that are almost vertical. And, theses ...
