Day 1: I get moving early and go across to the little cafe in the square for the BnB provided breakfast of tea or coffee and a croissant. They have free wifi which works. Yes! ... building is absolutely massive.

We made our way through the old centre towards the Duomo & stumbled on the Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II a very swish mall with a soaring vaulted glass roof. Gordon had some fun in there at the Mercedes store. Then on to the Duomo - the third largest church in the world apparently & kind of hard to believe they get much bigger than this. Didn't see much point in trying to take photos as it ...

... Jimmy Choo, Chopard and the like. Settled into a busy restaurant for lunch, and opted for the regional dishes, beginning with a sublime fennel and Pernod soup. Clare followed with a macaroni cheese that had diced potato through it, and was served with some sort of fried up shredded beef and apple sauce. Mine was a deer ragu with chanterelles and potato croquettes, both very nice. When the crowd died down, another two ladies came in and ordered, along with ...
