... I think the oldest building I've ever been in - it was built in 30 AD (that's a 2 digit year, not a typo)
Castelvechio was also pretty cool and had some great art inside.
Stopped at Osteria Verona in the main square for some predinner drinks and had some awesome house wine before going to La Taverna Di Via Stella for dinner. Really nice place with friendly staff and great food. Had ...
... of undying love to each other. Makes for quite a sight really. There were nice markets there and a sort of mini colosseum which is still used today for concerts.
There was also a statue of Juliet which is meant to bring you good luck if you rub her right breast. Her right breast is very polished!
Jumped back on the coach to the next stop!
... having difficulty walking, and I just couldn't stop smiling the whole walk home about yet another random night in Italy. The next morning we watched some British Office as we ate (the American version is waaaaaaaaay better) then I had to get going to catch my train. I'd have 3 transfers again and was not looking forward to the long journey home. Apparently the second transfer was not on another train as I thought, but via bus, but no one really ...
Vicenza, Veneto, Italy alliemarie... toilet. We took the obligatory photos at the Rialto then just planned to walk towards a different section of the Grand Canal, but ended up just wandering through the back streets soaking up the atmosphere. There were tourists everywhere we went and of course shops selling Murano Glass and other souvenirs- I don’t know how they all survive. We ended up losing our way constantly until we got the Grand Canal opposite the ...
Verona, Veneto, Italy kiama_on_tour... ants nest. not the best pitch we have ever had. We spend the first day lounging by the lake, this part of the lake is dirty and nothing like the romantic picturesque images we were looking forward to. nevertheless it was relaxing the food was good and the beer was cold.
what more could I ask for?
a pitch in the shade away from the ants and the children, too much to ask?
Monday 11th May. A quick brekky and off again to Verona the scene where Romeo and Juliette was based on. Verona was hot and we parked in the city and walked around the old town seeing the massive and mostly intact arena like the Roman Colliseum. This one holds concerts regularly being intact and was great to walk around it and see the view high up on the top seats. The streets of Verona gave us lots to look at and we ...
Verona, Veneto, Italy kasnsqueak... 2 glasses of water and it was 19 euros! However, like us they have ways of coping. Check out the Italian pound shop! . The rest of the first night, we took it easy and had a hot but lengthy sleep. We had bought a Verona card which covered us for travel around the city and entry to museums. It was quite good because being frugal Scots, we made the most of it the next day. After a really nice breakfast here at the ...
Verona, Italy divachappie... statue of Juliet though, John wanted one without anyone in, but there was a constant stream of people going to grope her. The Arena was pretty nice as well, but we decided against going in, as it was only going to be disappointing in comparison to the Colloseum. We wandered around again soaking up the Italianity of the place, in the scorching heat (34C and very humid), feeling happy with our trip in Italia. We finished off with our last gelato before heading onto the train for Switzerland.
Verona, Italy joshjpalmer... two minutes before departure, Trenitalia staff board the carriage and inform everyone that carriage needs to be closed and that we all must find new seats. This would not have been so bad had their not been the massive German group to also find new seats. So, with my bags in hand yet again, I disembarked and ran as fast as I could for the front cars. I managed to find an empty seat in one of the compartment carriages, well before the ...
