    ... for €12 we could take an elevator up the belfry. I thought it was a bit expensive but later decided to do it anyway. I'm glad we did because the views from the top were fantastic. It was a bit foggy today but still nice. We caught another vaporetto over to the main island and walked around the shops and got a gelato. Now the gondoliers here were the famous blue and white hooped shirts and they are the norm. It was funny to see a gondolier wearing a red and white one. ...

    Well we've arrived! After our flight being delayed in Amsterdam, we arrived in Venice. However, we missed the first bus to campus due to the delay so we had to wait in the Venice airport for four hours. It seemed like a really long time because everyone was exhausted from traveling, but we just sat in a group and got to know each other.     Dinner was excellent. We have our table for 2 next to a large window and as the ship departed Venice during our meal we sat and watched the lights go by as we ate. The city lights were accompanied by very regular, very spectacular lightening which Gill wasn’t too keen about.
