Historical Traveler Reviews San Marcial Apartments Puerto Del Carmen
Wanted to stay outside of Porto Del Carmen, so we stayed in San Marcial, had a lovely one bed apartment which was clean. Lovely pool and very nice staff. It costs €3.30 in a taxi to porto del carmen. It was very hot when we were there are we were able to hire a fan for the week for €15.00. Food in the bar was lovely and very reasonable. Only suggestion I would make it to bring extra towels as they are only changed twice per week. Also see if you can get a balcony, really nice views.
Totally exceeded expectations
we only booked our holiday a week before we left and having paid only GBP265 each for a week we were relieved to arrive at nice clean spacious apartments. also the airport is so close so it was only a 20 min transfer. we went on the tour operators bus but a taxi would have probably cost less and taken a few mins less too.
speaking of the airport, there is some noise during the day (not at night) from planes taking off adn landing but it didn't bother us at all, we actaully found it quite interesting to watch in a strange way.
the self catering kitchenn was ok, a 2 ring hob, microwave and kettle were sufficient for our needs - we ate breakfast and lunch there everyday and cooked one evening meal. you'd have to b quite resourceful if you didn't want to eat out at all but it was fine for us.
i was a bit anxious after hearing lots of negative feedback about lanzarote but it was really nice. if you want culture it won't be for you but for fun in the sun it fits the bill
lots of late nights in puerto del carmen (taxi around 4 euros and nice to be away from the noise during the day). the old town and harbour are better for food than the main strip where most of the good (but a bit english) bars are.
san marcial apartmens and pool area, reception, etc all very clean. not too many noisy children although probably many more during the school summer holidays.
the non enlgish speaking security man and his dog were very friendly when we got back at 5.30 in the morning!!
time mainly spent by the pool and on the beach but we went on a tour around the volcanoes, etc. 20 euros and it left from hotel beatriz which is right next to san marcial. a camel ride for 5 euros is def recommended.
ask for a higher room (only 3 levels but poss of cockroaches on ground floor) and away from the pool if you want it to be quiet. we were in room 142 and just about had a sea view and a lovely view of the mountains out of our bedroom window
all in all, a great holiday, i really did not want to leave
EXCELLENT HOLIDAY- BEAUTIFUL APARTMENTS!
My friends and i were moved to these apartments after not being happy with the los zocos in costa teguise. The apartments are beautiful!! Everywhere is so clean and well looked after. Thr pool is quite large, only problem was that is was freezing!
We had a 2 bedroom room which was massive, again very clean with excellent facilities.
The supermarket on hand is good-not too expensive- the restauant-pool bar was great value- lunch everyday for less than 5 euros.
Lots of families and children about, quiet during the day.
The beach is about a ten minute walk away.-better if you walk along a bit towards purto del carmen.
The area itself is very very quiet- a taxi into puerto del carmen is onlt about 3 euros where you will find numerous shops, bar etc and a wkd nightlife with clubs if that is what you want.
We ate out every evening for no more than 20 euros each which incuded a two course meal with wine- very impresses.
Yes, we would go back-however would have preferred to stay in peuro del carmen-for a young group of girls montagana really isnt the place.
Building work still on going.....Airport very close...10 min walk, making sitting by pool very noisy...poorly equiped kitchen (2 ring hob, microwave and fridge)....No car park...poor security, told gate allowing easy access to beach and shopping area not opened til 10am but was then left unlocked all weekend....Reception staff lost use of english to anyone asking even basic questions...Bad storm one day, rain came in through window frames and had to wait 2 hours for the reception to reopen and then only 1 mop and bucket between all rooms.....Only saving grace was onsite supermarket, lovely fresh cooked bread and pastries, very competative prices
we have just returned from the san marcial apartments, we went 20th january 2005 for 2 weeks.we arrived and was quite pleased it looked basic but very nice little did we know what it would be like. After unpacking and going for a nosy round we returned and everything was fine, got up the next day with loud banging and drilling. At the 4 apartments next to ours they were modernising them little did we know that the work was going to continue for the whole of the 2 weeks.we was never informed of the building work as we arrived and no effort was made to solve this problem. The work started from 9oclock in the morning and continued through out the day it totally spoilt our holiday and we found we went out just to get away from the noise. The hotel manager was very arrogant and made no attempt to apologise or speak to us in any way.We was really looking forward to the holiday as we dont get away much.
hi me and my partner went to the san marcial appartments 9th sept 2004 just for a nice week away, and to be totally honest the appartments and its grounds are really lovely as we usually have really basic when we go away but to be fair they are fab at these appartments ,telly as well ok limited channels but hey they were very clean and comfortable, mind you lanzarote wasnt all i had expected but it was a nice holiday all the same and you have to go on the yellow submarine as well, also the week we went to these appartments we were the only two welsh in the whole resort the rep told us, so go down to scarlets bar in the main matagorda square and you will see our welsh towell hanging over the banister after 8pm in the evening as thats when the bar opens heeeeee, but yep highly recomended to use these appartments very comfy and the pool is great as well,we also walked to perta del carmen from where we were,ok it took 2 hours, but thats stopping in shops on the way as well great walk, but make sure ya have ya trainers as i has blisters ouch heeeeee, teresa
These apartments were wonderful! I went in Sept 2003 with my partner and enjoyed every minute of it. The apartments were clean, relatively modern, large (for two), and cosy. The pool bar was excellent with nice but cheap meals and friendly staff. The simming pool was always clean and certainly large enough for the amount of people there at the time. The entertainment was average, with the betting night being the highlight. It was also a 2minute walk down to the beach, and 5minute walk to a small resurant area. We found ourselves walking along the coastline alot, finding strips of pubs etc, and if you walk far enough you reach a quiet town full of white washed buildings.
It was a lovely location with wonderful apartments, and I would highly recommend it.
Great for Kids!
After having just returned from the San Marcial Apartments in Matagorda, Lanzarote, I have to say that my family and I thoroughly enjoyed our stay there. The apartments are ideally located, not too far from the 'town' centre and only a short stroll to the beach. The apartments are spacious, clean and have loads of wardrobe space. Staff were friendly and courteous and the choice of food/drinks at the poolside bar was on the whole, very good. Facilities for the kids included large swimming pool (including kids section and separate small pool), pool tables, football tables, a play park and a great kids club with something for the kids to do every day and night if they wanted. The kids club also arrange days out (minus parents!) so it's great for when you want time on your own. Only problem was the weather - we went in early May expecting it to be lovely. However, due to the strong winds and the overcast cloudy sky, the sun rarely shone through. Beware early May!

... they are brilliant, my son had the time of his life and even got a certificate for best driver of the day.
The weather was lovely and the people friendly. We both had a great time.
(sorry these reviews are short, I'm running out of steam and just want to get started on the main article)
Landing at the airport I quickly found that they only had one ATM and it was out of order and there was nowhere to exchange cash. So rather than getting the bus I was lumped with a taxi.
It was a small bump in what was a chilled five days in the little town of Corralejo in the north of Fuerteventura, one of the Canary Islands. It's a kiteboarding and surfing paradise so not quite my cup of tea but I really enjoyed the laid back vibe ...
... not a bad way to spend my birthday!
Monday 9th June
Its home time today, and to make the most of it, we're up at the crack of dawn and out by the pool again before our 10am shuttle to the airport. I will be sad to leave the sunshine, cactus's and ocean, but will not miss having to dispose of toilet paper in a bin (due to their delicate system)! Adios Lanzarote, hasta luego!

Today we are jetting off into the sun, for a long weekend getaway for my birthday. We're leaving a surprisingly warm Edinburgh, which is fortunate because the walk to the tram is in t-shirts and jandals - yes, we are flying Ryan Air for the first time, and hand luggage is sparse. It was a slow start to the morning after a night out with the Edinburgh crew lastnight. To get into the Spanish theme, cousin Cheryl dared Kev to drink a jalapeno cocktail - ...
... her to return with ice cream :). 4 hours later and still no Em. I had seriously gotten my tan on, napped, read, ate ice cream (people watched around the beach selling it, super convenient) and swam some more. Finally I decided I should probably go look for her because it was getting to around the time when the boys would be coming back from the bike ride and starting the run. Packed up all our stuff and walked up and down the strip looking for ...
