Historical Traveler Reviews San Gallo Palace Hotel Florence

    Good place to stay!!

    from

This place is a little bit far from the main train station but once we got there, it was worth it. The rooms were what we expected from a 4star hotel. We really enjoyed the friendly staff and the buffet breakfast that was served. We would stay here again.

    What a value!

    from

We stayed at the San Gallo Palace just last week for 4 nights days. We booked a superior room. The hotel used to be a private house and has been renovated last year!!The rooms are not large, but you will find all the comfort you need. The bathrooms are not very large either, but the attention to details is excellent. Each room has a small flat panel TV with integrated internet access. The staff is fast and very freindly and help you anyway they can.The hotel is located about 10 min walk from the Duomo.I would suggest the San Gallo Palace to anybody travelling to Florence. Great pick for the value!!

    Excellent Value!

    from

We stayed at the San Gallo for seven nights in late September. Florence is a city we visit for business and pleasure several times each and we have stayed in many hotels, always hoping to find one we could adopt as our "regular" home away from home.

The rooms are spacious and elegantly appointed. The bathrooms are quite luxurious! We had a superior room with private terrace and it was tranquil and very comfortable. The bar and breakfast were lovely and comfortable. We only had breakfast two mornings but felt that it was more than adequate.

Service levels were high and the staff is courteous and well trained. The hotel is impeccably clean and well maintained.

Best of all - at least for us - was the residential location. Piazza della Liberta is not part of the tourist mainstream and therefore we were able to leave the madness of the Duomo far behind.

We have already book at the San Gallo for our winter visit and plan to make it "our" hotel.

    Fabulous Hotel

    from

Wow, this hotel was great! It is new and very clean. Our room was small but had all the modern conveniences. The hotel is sort of on the edge of Florence but within a 10-15 minute walk of most attractions. We walked at night and felt perfectly safe. This hotel was by far the best value for our money in all of Italy. We highly recommend this hotel to others.

    Fantastic !

    from

We have 4 nights at San Gallo Palace on august 2004. San Gallo is a perfect hotel, beautiful design, very good service. Rooms are very confortable and had all necessary equipements (internet, satellite TV, mini bar, ....). The satff is very helpful and professionnal.

The Breakfast is the best breakfast we had in italy (fresh fuit juce, fruits, all sorts of bread, very high quality products).

The price regading quality is excellent .

The only little problem is that the hotel is 15 minutes walking to the heart of Florence ! but one of the most pleasures of Florence is Walking ; and if we don't like walking, ther is a stop bus near the hotel.

I highly recommand this hotel !

... We waiting in line for about 45min before we were let in to climb the very steep and narrow stairs. The first floor took you inside the cathedral and you walked around the dome to get to the next flight of stairs. This is were the stairs became very steep, we were climbing up inside the dome itself and trying to get past people coming down was a very tight squeeze. But once we were up there the views were amazing. Also it was very hott, and everyone was very sweaty. ...

Angelo drove us to the train station - fornaci Di Barga. What a hair raising drive - I don't want to remember it. Narrow, windy roads travelling at 120kms per hour. No seat belts at the back being thrown and thrashed around. Lucky Lori was in the front otherwise she would of thrown up! Train ride however was fantastic, comfortable and relaxing. On arrival to Florence Giovanni, our cousin, met us. We went straight to see our zia Gioconda ...

... has meant that we have missed out on visits to a few desired locations- e.g. Galleria dell'Academia (home to Michelangelo's 'David') and the Uffizi Gallery. However, the likelihood for art and history overload would have been high and with a week in Rome- the exquisitely ancient city, filled with historical sites to kick off tomorrow, it's probably for the best to pace ourselves for another world of art and culture, summer sun and the promise of more lovely gelato to ...

... pretty tight and the man says it looks good on me. Are you kidding? I can’t breathe in it. I wasn’t planning to buy anyway, just hamming it a bit!

Hands full we head down toward the Ponte Vecchio via the Porcellino markets. With our hands full, Dianne decides to purchase gelatos for all – just what we need. We finish them on the Ponte Vecchio and take some shots of each other there. We finish and walk back up ...

... a train to Venice :). I remember as a kid hearing about Venice and thinking how i needed to get there before it sank. Well i made it, and it was fully above water, so that was a good start haha. The first day we went to Saint Marc's Cathedral and i got pulled aside for my shorts ( even though everyone else didn't) So i got to pay a Euro to wear this smock type thing. It looked like i was going in for surgery, and it was HOT in there, so ...
