Historical Traveler Reviews San Gallo Palace Hotel Florence

      Good place to stay!!

This place is a little bit far from the main train station but once we got there, it was worth it. The rooms were what we expected from a 4star hotel. We really enjoyed the friendly staff and the buffet breakfast that was served. We would stay here again.

      What a value!

We stayed at the San Gallo Palace just last week for 4 nights days. We booked a superior room. The hotel used to be a private house and has been renovated last year!!The rooms are not large, but you will find all the comfort you need. The bathrooms are not very large either, but the attention to details is excellent. Each room has a small flat panel TV with integrated internet access. The staff is fast and very freindly and help you anyway they can.The hotel is located about 10 min walk from the Duomo.I would suggest the San Gallo Palace to anybody travelling to Florence. Great pick for the value!!

      Excellent Value!

We stayed at the San Gallo for seven nights in late September. Florence is a city we visit for business and pleasure several times each and we have stayed in many hotels, always hoping to find one we could adopt as our "regular" home away from home.

The rooms are spacious and elegantly appointed. The bathrooms are quite luxurious! We had a superior room with private terrace and it was tranquil and very comfortable. The bar and breakfast were lovely and comfortable. We only had breakfast two mornings but felt that it was more than adequate.

Service levels were high and the staff is courteous and well trained. The hotel is impeccably clean and well maintained.

Best of all - at least for us - was the residential location. Piazza della Liberta is not part of the tourist mainstream and therefore we were able to leave the madness of the Duomo far behind.

We have already book at the San Gallo for our winter visit and plan to make it "our" hotel.

      Fabulous Hotel

Wow, this hotel was great! It is new and very clean. Our room was small but had all the modern conveniences. The hotel is sort of on the edge of Florence but within a 10-15 minute walk of most attractions. We walked at night and felt perfectly safe. This hotel was by far the best value for our money in all of Italy. We highly recommend this hotel to others.

      Fantastic !

We have 4 nights at San Gallo Palace on august 2004. San Gallo is a perfect hotel, beautiful design, very good service. Rooms are very confortable and had all necessary equipements (internet, satellite TV, mini bar, ....). The satff is very helpful and professionnal.

The Breakfast is the best breakfast we had in italy (fresh fuit juce, fruits, all sorts of bread, very high quality products).

The price regading quality is excellent .

The only little problem is that the hotel is 15 minutes walking to the heart of Florence ! but one of the most pleasures of Florence is Walking ; and if we don't like walking, ther is a stop bus near the hotel.

I highly recommand this hotel !

Our bags packed and an early morning start to Perugia! We drove about 3 hours during which time our guide described some things and also a small lesson for some Italian words! We arrived in Assisi just as it began to sprinkle!! We walked through this walled city until we came to the Church of St Francis! We went in for a tour, saw the crypt and …

Today at volunteering we helped the children learn clothing. They were not too excited about it, until they found out we had bingo... They went crazy!!! To say they loved bingo is an understatement! After the wonderful chaos of the children, I went on a tour of palazzo vecchio. This was a tour based on the book Inferno by Dan Brown. It was great! We ...

... of Cinque Terre by foot, train and boat. On the suggestion of the guide we went to a little store that sold a cheese bread. It was like a crust pastry like puffed out bread stuffed with a soft cheese like Brie. Dayna was in heaven! After a 13 hour day we returned to our little apartment exhausted but happy. Such a great day.

... somewhat of a blur, with the certain knowledge that it was definitely worth it.

The brain was reeling after all this culture, so retired to a pub at the edge of the piazza to recuperate. Definitely a pub, they had cider. Enjoyed the water vapour blowing from the cafe next door and watched kids playing soccer

Out to dinner at a local restaurant recommended by the concierge. Most enjoyable.

... via d'Orsini I noticed a bar and a gelateria were also open. To my relief there is an ATM machine in the neighborhood. It was getting warm and I was sleepy after pasta despite ordering a café lungho, a longer shot of espresso to stay awake. Only stupid tourists walk around in the hot afternoon sun. I returned home and struggled with the locks despite practice with Dario yesterday. Tomorrow I have to be downtown ...
