Travel Blogs from Florence
Finally, here is our blog from Florence!!!
After catching a nice train to Florence from Venice, we went for a walk to see the Ponte Vecchio and surrounding gold shops... looked at lots of lovely things. We kept getting lost around the Ponte Vecchio, heading for tea in wrong direction, thinking we were on …
... of the river). More locals are around. I hear Italian more while walking around and it is really a nice and quieter atmosphere away from the hustle and bustle.
I started my Italian class which moves very fast since it is only 3 weeks long. I've got 2 weeks left to cram in as much as possible. La mia professoressa è molto buona! (My professor is very good!) My schedule now basically looks like this:
Monday - Friday: 9- 11:30am - Classe Italiana (italian ...
... art gallery) for the next day, as the lines are long to get in and if you pre- book, you get in quicker - mission achieved, we then strolled around, had a few drinks and sorted a place to have dinner - no lunch today so early dinner ( I'm still expanding though!).
Walked around the Ufizzi for over 2.5 hours - which is nothing - I'm sure if you were an art nut, you could spend days in here - but ...
... sure it worked. However, that goodness for Google! I googled the make/model and voila, I had the manual with step by step directions! As we are blogging our clothes are getting clean! We didn't create a make shift laundry line across our room to help with drying things that are quick to dry. Regardless if it does a fantastic job, it still is better than using that sink beside the toilet! ;-) After we arrived last night we took a stroll to Piazza San Spirito ...
... to do some shopping on the Ponte Vechio. Ev got a gorgeous pair of gold dangly citrine earrings and Suzanne picked up a small watercolor from one of the local artists. The line was still long at the Uffizi, but thanks to our Florence cards we were in the museum in less than 15 minutes. There we saw incredibly old painted wood panels dating back to the 14th century, Botticelli paintings, and sculptures of men and women of every shape and size. We ...

Good place to stay!!
This place is a little bit far from the main train station but once we got there, it was worth it. The rooms were what we expected from a 4star hotel. We really enjoyed the friendly staff and the buffet breakfast that was served. We would stay here again.
What a value!
We stayed at the San Gallo Palace just last week for 4 nights days. We booked a superior room. The hotel used to be a private house and has been renovated last year!!The rooms are not large, but you will find all the comfort you need. The bathrooms are not very large either, but the attention to details is excellent. Each room has a small flat panel TV with integrated internet access. The staff is fast and very freindly and help you anyway they can.The hotel is located about 10 min walk from the Duomo.I would suggest the San Gallo Palace to anybody travelling to Florence. Great pick for the value!!
We stayed at the San Gallo for seven nights in late September. Florence is a city we visit for business and pleasure several times each and we have stayed in many hotels, always hoping to find one we could adopt as our "regular" home away from home.
Wow, this hotel was great! It is new and very clean. Our room was small but had all the modern conveniences. The hotel is sort of on the edge of Florence but within a 10-15 minute walk of most attractions. We walked at night and felt perfectly safe. This hotel was by far the best value for our money in all of Italy. We highly recommend this hotel to others.
We have 4 nights at San Gallo Palace on august 2004. San Gallo is a perfect hotel, beautiful design, very good service. Rooms are very confortable and had all necessary equipements (internet, satellite TV, mini bar, ....). The satff is very helpful and professionnal.
The Breakfast is the best breakfast we had in italy (fresh fuit juce, fruits, all sorts of bread, very high quality products).
The price regading quality is excellent .
The only little problem is that the hotel is 15 minutes walking to the heart of Florence ! but one of the most pleasures of Florence is Walking ; and if we don't like walking, ther is a stop bus near the hotel.
I highly recommand this hotel !
