... of Venice to the ground, the city fathers ordered the furnaces at the heart of glass making out of Venice. The glass artists moved their foundries to the island of Murano a mile north of Venice in 1291. At its peak in a century after the move, 3,000 of the 7,000 residents of Murano were in some part of glass making, either crafting or production.

... Europe. This lace is truly beautiful and a lot is applied to linen.

Another point of interest is the coloured houses. The colour of the houses follow a specific system originating from the golden age of its development. It someone wants to paint their home, they send a request to the government, who will respond by making notice of the certain colours permitted for that lot!

... Sim was happy in general because he got to have all things German that he loves (ie the food and beer). The weather was still horrible so we couldn't really do much so we ended up driving back down to Verona. The train to Venice was an interesting experience in itself. The carriages are like those in Harry potter, with 3 chairs facing another 3 chairs. It proves to be quite an awkward way to be seated unless you know the people opposite you... We did not know the people across from us. It was two young Italian girls to start with headed to a local mall from what we could see. Then for a good hour we had the cabin to ourselves...not for long. A young ...

I absolutely love being in Venice, and I really like this apartment…except for the bed. It's a sofa bed but you pretty much have to leave it as a bed because they've added a second (thin) mattress, which doesn't help the comfort level at all. By far the worst sleep I've gotten on this entire trip. However, the shower is wonderful. So there you go. I moved fairly slowly this morning and didn't get out until almost 10:00 AM. And then ...
