... It was actually unplanned and a lucky coincidence- it was the only restaurant in the village! After lunch Sat Nav has the important task of navigating our route across the top of the alps. Unfortunately the map on the app didn't show that the main road I was directing us to was in a tunnel and I was completely confused when according to the directions we should have been at an intersection where we could turn onto the motorway but all we could see was snow!! We ...

We woke up to a beautiful vista from our balcony that overlooked the valley towards to sea. San Marino has a population of 30 000 and is tax free. At the very top is a walled city and our hotel was just outside the wall. It also has 3 enclosed forts that look spectacular lit up at night as well as during the daylight. Quite a cool morning as we walked up to the first fort. This was ...

The young owners had built the house out of the stones etc from her grandparents house who owned the farm originally. We had two rooms upstairs ...

... of fresh fish, anchovies, krill and more. As always, a good Italian white wine was served. We finished up with a large shot glass of cold lemoncello. We drove both cars back to mama's apartment where we said goodbye to everyone. When we got back to the house I stayed up packing a little longer than I should and didn't go to bed until about 3am. We had to be up at 6am so Enricho could drive us to the train station in ...

      Winery and Monte Cucco/Gubbio

... expect this to be the highest elevation of our trip in Italy. The views were spectacular (and that is an understatement). This is one of the best places in the world to hand glide and the hand gliders did not disappoint. They could almost float in midair. Gubbio: it was getting late and Enricho really wanted to show us a medieval town Gubbio. This town was fortress-like and right out of Lord of ...
