San Diego tour

Day 2: Saturday 30th May:

We decided to take a coach tour of San Diego ending in a visit to Tijuana in Mexico.

What a tour it was. I do not enjoy coach tours. Normally I have to dope myself with travel sickness tablets to get through but on this occasion, sat at the front of the coach, I thoroughly enjoyed a whole days trip which included Bilboa Park (being prepared for the Rock and Roll Marathon on Sunday 31st May); Coronado Hotel (previously used for filming Marilyn Monroe in ...

We arrive in San Diego - 1st evening

Day 1: Friday 30th May

After an 11 hour flight we were all glad to jump in Clive's hire car for the 127 mile journey from LA to San Diego. What we didn't count on was having to swap the convertible ( the mechanism for the roof takes up all the boot space ) for an Outback - a huge beast of a 4 x 4!!!!

San Diego and our friend Shamu

Having spent two days in Anaheim, at the Disneyland Resort it was time to leave the goths behind. The weather had been a bit chilly for our liking in Los Angeles so we were heading down south to San Diego, we had also go this great package with Disney Travel which included all our accomodation and entry to all the attractions, Disneyland, Seaworld, San Diego Zoo and Universal Studio´s. So here was our second stop, San Diego and what a difference! Not only was the weather warmer but there was ...

Historical Traveler Reviews of San Diego-Days Inn Hotel Circle By Seaworld/Zoo

Shuttles are great

from gcm40
Recently stayed two nights at Days Inn, Hotel Cir. in Mission Valley part of San Diego. The room accomodations are average, at best, but if you are in town to visit the Zoo and/or Seaworld, this is a good place to stay. It offers free shuttle to both these parks, plus free shuttle to and from airport. As we flew into town, we found this shuttle quite helpful. However, I would only stay here if I was taking advantage of the shuttle!

Not What Expected

from A TripAdvisor Member
Stayed at this hotel four nights for the first time, and it was not what we expected. It is just a cheap roadside hotel at best. The rooms were small but clean. VERY noisy! Not good for families with chirldren who need sleep. Disturbance at 4:30AM one morning with yelling outside our room and in the parking lot. Staff did not seem interested in the noise. Pool was way to cold to swim in. This hotel circle area is to congested and noisy. Not a relaxing place to stay. Will stay in another area next time in San Diego, and for sure not at this hotel.

Disgusted with treatment of military personal

from A TripAdvisor Member
My son just recently graduated from MCRD. Now he is doing his training up north at Camp Pendleton. President weekend he and a few fellow Marines got a suite here. Saturday morning they awake to a knock on the door telling the men they needed to leave becuase there were golfers who were in town for the convention and they needed to give their room up to them. With the cold rain coming down, these men took their c-bags and headed for the streets to located another hotel where they could stay for the weekend. However, there were none to be found because of the golfers convention. I find this absolutely disdurbing how this hotel chain can kick military out on the street to give their room to some civilins. How does management sleep at night? I am sure they lay their heads comfortably on their pillows with a safe and secure feeling. All because of these men and women who dedicate their lives to our country. And this is the way they are shown our graditude for serving our country. I know I will never ever support The Days Inn again. As should no one else who beleives that these men and women should be shown and given the most upmost respect.

Not "All That"

from Mamabear33
My family and I stayed at the hotel for New Years week. The hotel fit the meaning of "You get what you pay for" The staff is kind and the PamPam grills food is tasty. Yet the rooms are old, the shuttle had only two times they would drop off and pick up passengers to Sea World, so make sure you check on that if you plan on using the services.

Reservations are required. Also hotel circle is not the most quiet area for relaxation. It's right off the freeway and constantly busy. We thought it was like that because of the New Year celebrations, but Nope I was told it is hectic all year long. I will stay in a different area next time I plan to getaway to San Diego.

No complaints

from kaspark
We stayed here at the end of December 2003 and we have absolutely no complaints.

Although the hotel is close to the highway, there was not much noise in our room. The room was actually very quiet and we never heard our neighbors. The shuttle from the airport was quick to come once we called it.

The staff people were friendly and the room was clean. We would come back here if we'd travel to San Diego again.

Dissapointed here!

from A TripAdvisor Member
I was a bit dissapointed from a 3 night's stay at this hotel. The earlier reviewers seemed to rate this hotel very highly and maybe that's why I had high expectations. Also, I read about some "best days inn award" that it claims on the website. pros: Prompt and Free shuttle to airport, sea world, zoo. Friendly helpful staff. Restaurant on site.cons: The hotel rooms are old and it shows. The old carpet didn't seem very clean, yarns(?) were pealing off the carpet near the bathroom tiles. Some paints were pealing off from the walls. The room door sqeaked real loud everytime it was opened or closed (we had two small children who were disturbed by that). We had a room with kitchenette.

The size of the room was smaller than average. The kitchenette was basically a compact stove/fridge combo add-on unit that was placed outside the bathroom (more like an after thought, not originally designed). The fridge was real tiny and the freezer did not have a door. I had to remove a shelf in the fridge to place a milk or juice carton! The microwave was tiny too and I couldnt heat 9oz baby bottles there. The utensils were a joke -- very thin light cheap steel utensils -- it would burn black even before you cooked anything in it -- so basically we were unable to use the kitchenette. There was no exhaust over the stove and that made the rooms very stuffy when one of the pans burnt the food at out first attempt to cook there. We had lots of luggage because we were travelling with two small children. There was only one elevator for a BIG building and we were at the far end ... had to walk long long ways with all the luggage. Our TV remote was not working properly -- but that was fixed promptly once we notified.

Best Location

from A TripAdvisor Member
We stayed here in Dec. 2003. This hotel is in a great location. It was close to the zoo, seaworld, downtown, Gaslamp Quarter, Old Town, restaurants, and shopping. The hotel is an older property, but they have done some renovations receantly. It was very clean. They have complimentary transportation to the zoo, seaworld, and the airport.

They also sale discount tickets to the attractions. The front desk was very helpful on directions and recommending places. Our room was very big and clean. We ate breakfast at the Pam Pam which is on location. It was very good. We asked for the Bed and Breakfast package when we made our reservations $80. So the breakfast was free the next morning. It was wonderful. We felt very safe at the hotel. I will definitely stay here if we go to San Diego again.

Great Location and well kept Days Inn

from A TripAdvisor Member
My husband and I stayed at the Days Inn from 9-6 to 9-12. It was our first time to San Diego. The Days Inn was recently renovated. The furnishings were attractive and the window curtians and bedspreads were tastefully done. It was very clean. The room had a small fridge, coffee maker, hair dryer, and iron and ironing board. All the necessities to make the stay more comfortable. They have a restuarant on the premises, called the Pam Pam. We ate their many times at the end of a busy day of site seeing. It was very convenient. They have a pool and hot tub. We used the Hot tub each night, which helped relaxe and soothe us for a good nights sleep. The Days Inn is located near many of the more popular sites, Sea World, Zoo, Old Town, and beaches. Most were only a 5 to 10 minute drive away. If you don't have a rental car, the Days Inn does have a courtesy van, which will pick you up and take you back to the airport. They also have a shuttle van transport to Sea World and the zoo. There is a bus stop in front of the Days Inn for another way to get around town. The staff were always courteous and willing to help with any questions or problems that might arise. We would stay at the Days Inn again.

Good hotel, helpful staff, handy location

from A TripAdvisor Member
Good clean, comfortable room, nice pool, reasonable price. Is 2-3 miles from Sea World and San Diego Airport. Very helpful staff. Rooms quiet (providing you get one that is a little way back from the front - most are). Only shows as a two star hotel, but seemed as well equipped as any of the three stars we stayed at. Would happily stay here again.

Days Inn Hotel Circle stay

from A TripAdvisor Member
This is an older property, but WELL kept. The staff at the Days Inn Hotel Circle was especially wonderful! I was promptly picked up at the airport and brought to the hotel where the checkin was quick and efficient. They were very helpful in arranging the hotel shuttle to take me to the Zoo; provided good information about the Trolley Tour and where to catch the bus; and even arranged for reasonable car rental with pick up and drop off.

The room was clean, neat, with a 25" TV (with HBO), iron & ironing board, mini refriderator, soaps, shampoos and towels. It provided all of the necessities required. The room was also quite, not hearing people walk past or walking in the room above. The hotel grounds was well kept also.

If I come back to San Diego for another vacation, I would stay here because of the staff and the cleanliness of the property.
