Best Hotel in Venice

What a wonderful start to our recent (March 2004) 12- day trip to Italy. My family of five had three rooms in this beautiful hotel/resort and they were BY FAR the largest, most opulent and scenic rooms of our entire trip. We enjoyed the most magnificent views of the Grand Canal "skyline" from our rooms. And appreciated the comfortable beds, soft linens, luxe bathrooms, cozy bar...every aspect was first-class.

The staff is excellent, professional and pleasant at the same time. We were there with our teen-age boys and they just loved the whole set-up: the heated pool, tennis courts, putting greens, jogging path, and most especially hopping into the refurbished mahogany cruiser to arrive "in style" every mornig at San Marco. I really cannot praise this hotel too highly... it truly is a 5-star luxury experience. I have recommended the SCP to all my friends and hope to return there often.

GREAT GREAT GREAT !

Stayed a few days ago for 2 nights. Very impressive hotel and very much 5*. Great Value, excellent service and facilities, friendly staff, stunning overall. Great Breakfasts. Spa is superb. (outdoor pool only open in the summer). Excellent location and views. Transfer boat to centre is very stylish. Rooms are spacious and well furnished and very clean. Could have done with a plan in the lobby to see where things were in the hotel (bit limited on information). Hotel restaurant is a bit expensive.

Idyllic

We stayed at the St Clemente for two nights in March 2004 and had a really marvellous time. The hotel is very quiet and elegant, with beautiful grounds and public spaces. The room we had (a deluxe double) was very large, beautifully decorated, with first class facilities. The boat service is reliable and enjoyable (takes 12 mins), though was not running as frequently as advertised. Concierge and reception staff are extremely helpful. I would certainly recommend the watertaxi on arrival -- ca 25 mins from airport compared to a total of ca 90mins (but 90 euros). Only two quibbles: 1) the restaurant (Maschere) was not up to scratch in cooking skill or in service (and did not justify its prices) -- though the breakfasts were outstanding; 2) the hotel insisted on pumping out bizarrely inappropriate music throughout (an insipid euro-tchno-musak). Generally, though, this is a very special place that is full of atmosphere and charm -- perhaps especially in off season.

Perfection

This hotel is wonderful. We had a suite which was simply fantastic. It beats all other hotels in Venice and the combination of the location, the luxury shuttle, the service (the concierge service is particularly good) and general ambience are hard to beat.It is as much as you can do to force yourself onto that boat and get into town!A word to the wise - get a water taxi to and from the airport, find people to share it with if you must (to save cost) but do not do it the other way via the general transportation, it is a nightmare and I wish we had got the water taxi both ways and not just one.Have fun - this is a special place.

Beautifully furnished, good service but just lacking those small touches to make it a five rating

We stayed for 4 nights over Carnevale. It's quite a novelty staying in a hotel on its own island - arriving in a blizzard was pretty romantic, the subsequent days of rain made it somewhat less so! The boat ride across the lagoon adds to the experience, though at times during our stay the boats ran just every 40-60 mins or so, which was not ideal given the winter weather. We stayed in a deluxe double room - from what I saw of the standard rooms, it was worth paying the extra. However, we had to ask to switch rooms after our first (201) was next door to a rather noisy generator. The second was fine - though still without the lagoon view we were supposed to have. As hotels go, the furnishings of San Clemente are lovely, the service was good overall and the location stunning. What was missing for us, were the little details such as complimentary fruit and water in the room, a Carnevale programme (especially as we were on the hotel's 'Exploring Venice during Carnevale' deal), nibbles with the (expensive) drinks from the american bar etc. Would we stay there again? We did enjoy our stay, but would probably not return - just not quite special enough.

Island Oasis

Stayed here over Carnivale weekend in Venice. The shuttle itself is good experience as it allows you to travel the wonderful Venice lagoon, for free! Total travel time is about 15 minutes and theire are shuttles every 20 minutes. The property grounds are magnificent. I got a room that had an awesome view, high ceilings and a comfortable enough king bed. Room was a tad small in comparation to high ceilings. bathrooms done in marble are decent looking but certainly not top of the line marble. Overall, you can't get a better place in Venice for your money.

Bliss and then some

We stayed at San Clemente in December and left the island smitten with the hotel. The rooms are fabulous, service top notch, and the other accouterments were unsurpassed. It does take about a half hour to reach the island from St. Marks and visitors should be warned that, if you choose San Clemente as your base, you may find yourself quite unwilling to make the journey to Venice. This type of luxury can be addictive and is really difficult to find anywhere. Forget those other five stars!

Highly Recommended

My wife and I stayed at the San Clemente from January 5th to 10th 2004 and had a wonderful time. The service was excellent and the accomodation was superb.

The decor is stunning and it is extremely quiet. The San Clemente really makes you think that you are staying in a palace. Even the boat trip to mainland is done promptly on schedule and the hotel boats are lovely.

The restaurant food is excellent and the hotel has the two of the largest hot tubs that I have ever seen. They even have complementary shoe polishing.

My wife said that if any improvement could be made it would be to improve the turndown service by providing a chocolate on the pillow.

We are known as hotel snobs and have stayed at some outstanding hotels including the Ritz Calton in Maui. This hotel equals their service and facilities and the price was extremely reasonable when we were there.

Get there while you can because when the secret gets out the prices will probably soar.

Heaven on a secret island

We just returned from Venice and it was my 6th trip, so I know the hotels pretty well. The San Clemente was just perfect !!! Actually, we were very lucky. The standard double room at this time of the year was 180 Euros. And when we arrived, as the hotel was not fully booked they upgraded us to a Junior Suite. Actually Room 333 the one which illustrated their brochure. The staff is really nice, especially the concierge who has good advice. I will return to this island.

A visit to paradise

We spent two nights here in Sept. 2003 and found the place to be the best kept secret in Venice. Newly opened in April, everything shines and the staff are very friendly and willingly to cater to all your needs. Located on its own private island about 15 minutes from the Grand Canal, you will welcome the quiteness and privacy of this island after the hustle and bustle of Venice. The hotel runs a free shuttle about 3 times an hour to get you to the action. I would stay here again without any doubt in my mind as to the quality of the place.
