Day 243 Thursday 30/06/05 Puerto Madryn to San Antonio De Areco We arrive in Buenos Aires at 12.40 and 10 minutes later we are on another bus to San Antonio De Areco - another 2 hours. We arrive at 3ish and check into the San Carlos Hotel - a cheap lovely hotel - it´s nice to be back into a hotel style place again - with an ensuite and fresh towels! After a quick freshen up we head out to the famous gaucho museum. This town is the cultural home of the gaucho - the cowboy of Patagonia. The mus...

... by a house red wine which was equally tasty and all in all we highly enjoyed our first real meal since we had left paris 40 hrs prior to that. Following our meal the others were continuing on to party but we were knackered and therefore took a taxi home, taxi who apart from being very open and friendly was astonished to find that we were going home to sleep and eagerly tried to convince us to go out.
Got to bed around midnight ...
Trying to summarise about 4 weeks in one entry is tricky, but here goes....
Once settled in Palermo, I´m glad to say that life in BA quickly became exactly the experience I had hoped for.
Argentinian Lifestyle
A quick word on the typical Argentinian lifestyle... this is something that takes a lot of getting used to. They will go out for dinner somewhere between 10pm and 12midnight, probably finishing between 12 and 1. Then they go to a bar until at ...
... a Huracan player try to take a corner kick with 2 police holding their riot shields over his head to protect him from various missiles!! It was almost like being at home in the post-match traffic jam until we saw the buses with the hooligans being escorted past by police and the local bus that had about triple it's capacity on board so couldn't shut it's doors! We even drove on the right hand side of the road for a wee while when the drivers ...

On our last day we headed to La Boca, a notorious district of BA that i was very excited to see. Famous for its brightly coloured buildings, street Tango, and infectious spirited atmosphere, it was great to visit.
And it was time to move onto the next far away place. On our last night Clau asked each of us to choose a word to describe Buenos Aires. Spirit. Colour. Passion. Vibrant.
It had been a great start.
... guys you won´t mess with when you see them. Nevertheless they told me they had never been so scared in their lives and they were very close to peeing their pants like litle girls. I saw the part of the stadium they were in from a save distance, but somehow I would have liked to be there as well, after listening to thier exciting stories afterwards. The last few days I took it easy ...
Buenos Aires, Capital Federal District, Argentina hansjew... basis. So: Week 1: after teary goodbyes with the family and the Tolson, I was off and on my own. The flight to New York was on a tiny little seat on a tiny little plane, but on the flight to Buenos Aires I was bumped up to business class, and enjoyed all the luxuries of the flight, including a wonderful seat mate from Argentina who reassured me I was making the right choice. I was met at the airport by a representative of the ...
Buenos Aires, Argentina larkinrose... although very frustrating to find out, restored my faith in my fellow travelers - we´re all in the same boat so it´s not nice to think someone would steal from your room; however a dishonest member of staff, although still not good by any stretch of the imagination, is a little easier to bear. And due to my loss, there will be a distinct lack of photos in my blog until I scrounge a few of various people I´ve met along the way, or get another camera.
Buenos Aires, Argentina corneliusp... to the dead. As impresssive as it was I couldn't help thinking that this was a society that spent more on the dead than the living. One of the highlights of BA is the food. Although the steak here is no better than what you can get in Australia, it's everywhere and it's very cheap in comparison. My highlight would have to be the world's best steak sandwiches from this hole in the wall grill ...
