As the traffic had been horrendous yesterday we decided to hit the autostrada and pay the tolls to save our sanity and hightail it to our next destination. 130kms and 10 Euro later we arrived in Santa Margherita Ligure, which is just up the road from Portofino.

This place is a bit larger than we are used to and Italian towns all have small car parks and narrow ...
Santa Margherita Ligure, Italian Riviera, Italy darrenhough74Sadie and I left beatiful peaceful Florence to mean unhelpful Genoa. We have been so spoiled in our travels up till this point. We usually have a bit of train trouble but nothing that can't be fixed or solved within an hour. Well landing in Genoa was not the case. The train ride up the coast was breath taking, I wanted so badly to jump off the train and stay a few days in one of the coastal towns. I think for my next trip to Europe its a must. The houses are so ...
Genoa, Italian Riviera, Italy konaduyThis morning we woke up to get ready to go on the Historic Center walking tour of Genoa. We had a nice breakfast at the buffet and I even found a decaf cappa for breakfast too. We met in the lounge at 8:45 and got on a little boat in the harbor and had a tour of the harbor and then got off at the aquarium and started our tour. Genoa is very nice and the historic section dates back ...
Genoa, Italian Riviera, Italy mamafeathersDestination 404

km197'196

A wonderful winding route via a inland section have lead me from Pisa to the coastline around Genova. But since in that part of the environment it was very hard to find a spot for bushcamping I took the toll freeway to prevent to get stuck in the chaotic traffic of Genova and headed north into the highlands of the northern region of Genova. A beatiful spot at the top of a mountain has provided perfect views to sunset and sunrise, but a bloody cold night!
Borghetto di Borbera, Piedmont, Italy martinasfamily... a pleasant female voice that we have affectionately named "Fraulein" for our trip. Fraulein would later become our best friend.

As we moved about through the city heading to the highway, and ultimately to our first Autobahn, another odd tend was noted. When stopped at a red light, the yellow will light with the red for a couple seconds, to signal that the green is imminent. Once the yellow and the red go out, the green comes on. This ...
Santa Margherita Ligure, Italian Riviera, Italy travelingmooresSong to listen to : "Euclide" by Iconae from the Live At The Church Of The Holy Ghost No lyrics found But instead, i remember of a music my Aunt loved to listen when I was there "If I ever feel better" - Phoenix They say an end can be a start Feels like I've been buried yet I'm still alive It's like a bad day that never ends I feel the chaos around me A thing I don't try to deny I'd better learn to accept that There are ...
Genoa, Italian Riviera, Italy amanda_marmotte... too bad, we watch a DVD and head off to bed. 19/8/07 Day 21 A day of great plans and greater disappointment. We head off later in the day with plans to catch the ferry to Genoa central, see the sights, have dinner out and returning by bus. Finally working out the transport system we set off with plenty of time to spare before the ferry leaves, backpack on with warmer clothes for this evening, Rob dreaming of pizza and myself of pasta that awaits us for tea. The ferry port isn't too ...
Genoa, Italy rob.jenn... and completely cleansed in every way, and a huge accomplishment and sort-of bonding experience for us both! That evening, after a hot chocolate for Tara and a glass of wine for Hilary, we sat and listed all the things we have come to love and hate in the last 2 months. All the laughs remembered, lessons learned, good times and not so good times! We talked till we fell asleep..... Time to pack up and head our separate ways! We will spare you our sad good-byes ...
Cinque Terre, Italy hsnyder... on your heel. We finally got chairs and an umbrella and commenced laying out. I have to say its been a long time since I felt so content. Laying in the sun with friends, a gorgeous view, and listening to music. David Bowie's "GOlden YEars" came on and I just had to smile at the perfection of it, the best song I could have picked to play on the soundtrack of the movie of my life. THe people watching is amazing as well. OUr favorite was a guy we ...
