Bye Bye Bangkok...Hello Samui

Well As we write this we are in Koh Samui, and this blog sums up Bangkok and our first day in Samui! Following on...we managed to head over to Khao San Road and after some elbow jabbing with fellow backpackers managed to secure a room for the night. Immediately we felt more at home than the previous night in Sukhumvit as almost everyone there was travelling like us. So...after ditching the bags (which are by no means like carrying feathers) we got a taxi to Chatuchuk market with over 6000 sta...

Koh Samui, Thailand

Here we stayed for 5 nights in a resort on the beach. It was quite rough I tell you. But for $15 a night per person I wasn't going to complain too much. You can probably imagine how we spent our days-- not much too it. Sunning ourselves on the beach all day and enjoying the occasional massage and Thai beer. We made plenty of local friends sin...

... Lan Lake in Khao Sok NP. I struggled to eat breakfast in the morning, my tummy still wasn't fully recovered. We got picked up early and it was a 1.5hr ride in the back of a pick up truck till we got to the lake. As it was only 8.30am I didn't think I needed ...

... find ourselves a beachside bungalow. No geckos this time but instead we have a 3 ft Monitor Lizard for company. There are parties on this island but we're taking that with a big pinch of salt collected from my skin after arriving covered in the stuff from our 'Pirates on the Ocean' exploits in getting here. In other news....9 districts around Chiang Rai in the North of Thailand have declared states of emergency as 2 people have died due to the temperature plummeting to a freezing.....54 degrees.

He then lit the contraption, brought over a kettle which I wrongly assumed was for a nice cup of tea and filled the resevoir type plate that went round the Wok bit with boiling water. So we added the noodles and veg to the water and the fish and meat to the top and within 5 minutes had a delightful meal of congealed noodles, soggy veg, burnt meat and raw fish. Undeterred we set ...

My Suan Mokh Experience

... and over and over again, in both Pali and English. 'Effort is the duty of today. Even tomorrow death may come. For it is beyond our power to deny death and its great armies.') I'd like to say that I am pretty proud of my continued effort throughout the retreat. Especially during the walking meditation sessions where I never once sat down and sucumbed to boredom like some others I saw. Although I will admit to breaking out in quite a few tai chi sessions. But really, it's the ...

... hour each mildly entertaining. I don't think they'd ever played so much hangman. I was so thankful to have Ben sitting in the back of all my classes all day, I think I may have walked out otherwise. I was so angry. I mean if I was going to teach, OK, but why lie about it. If they'd told me I could have at least prepared some games. At least Ben knows what to expect for his "orientation". The school is very small. Only thirteen classes of primary and ...
